Chicago Progressive Metal Group Dissona release cover of Willy Wonka favorite, “Pure Imagination”

On the heels of the release of their next album, Dissona releases their version of “Pure Imagination,” the rendition made famous by Gene Wilder in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Chosen by a loyal Patreon subscriber, Dissona takes the brightness and whimsy that made the original such an indelible classic and shades it under the storm clouds of the world’s current state. Orchestration has been pared back and darkened to allow the purity and message of the vocals to act as the herald and banner-man, leading the listener through the fray and out the other side.

Drive-By Truckers share lyric video for “Tough To Let Go”

Drive-By Truckers co-founder Patterson Hood shares his thoughts on the track and video:

“‘Tough To Let Go’ literally came to me in a dream. Ironically, in my dream it was a Jason Isbell song. My wife and I were seeing him soundcheck in a great big arena and he and his band were working up this brand new song. I told my wife that his new song was great and sounded like a huge hit. Then I woke up and realized that it wasn’t anyone’s actual song, so I immediately wrote it.

I even sent Jason a copy of the recording with some other songs to get his feedback and he said it was his favorite of the bunch. He assured me that it was indeed my song though. We recorded it in Memphis at Sam Phillips Recording Service. To me the horns take it to the next level. I’m really proud of the video also.”

To misquote Allen Ginsburg “the circle DODECAHDRON is broken. But with death comes rebirth.” AUTARKH takes a radical approach to their musical assault, consuming the listener with dizzying maelstroms of chaos. ‘Form In Motion’ embodies the word “extreme,” putting forth an intrusive battery of blistering guitars, pummeling drums, spastic math metal salvos and cacophonous electronics that culminates in one of the most robust and daring debut records metal has seen yet.

Its 13 songs feature lyrics written by Birkin—including, for the first time, two tracks in English—and music by Etienne Daho and Jean-Louis Piérot, who also produced. Daho co-wrote lyrics on multiple tracks as well. “At the start, we took inspiration from the script of Oh! Pardon…,” Birkin says of the process. “But then, gradually, we moved away from this and more pressing, urgent themes emerged. My daughter Kate, loss, heartbreak… Little by little, we drifted towards other horizons.”
