Pearl Charles shares “Only For Tonight” from this Friday’s album Magic Mirror on Kanine Records

“Only for Tonight’ tells the story of a currently bygone era of wild nights out on the town – the highs and lows of one night stands and the crashes of the morning after. The music video, directed by Bobbi Rich, leans into those excesses, paying a sparkly homage to the late-night musical television shows of the 70’s, from Soul Train to The Midnight Special, as well as the gauzy, Vaseline’d lens of ABBA’s music videos. With an added sprinkling of VHS special effects, you’re likely to feel like you’re watching a home-taped recording of a lost episode of Top of the Pops.” – Pearl Charles

The single arrives as Impeachment hearings dominate the media landscape, tying back to the very origin of the track. On writing the song, Claude says, “I wrote this song after Trump got elected. It felt like the world was ending and I wanted to somehow poke fun at his “Make America Great Again” slogan.”

New Video! The Caught “I’m Caught”

Exciting indie rockers “The Caught” have just released their debut album and it’s nothing short of a masterpiece. “In the Madness” is a six-track EP that takes us on a furious thrill-ride through the deepest depths of indie rock and beyond. With its thrashing guitars, hard-hitting rhythms and an overall raw, organic sound, here’s one record you don’t want to miss out on. Like much of their work, the songs on the release paint a gritty picture of life’s trials and tribulations, so intimately it feels like we’re right there with them. It’s all topped off with a healthy dose of mysticism, with Mel having studied eastern philosophy and infusing it’s esoteric ideas into the music.

ELECTRONIC ARTIST SYKES SHARES SOULFUL 2-STEP INFLUENCED SINGLE ‘WE AND US’

Entirely written and produced by Sykes, the lyrics are a reflection on religion, race and the systemic racism in our society, wrapped around 2-step influenced drums, jazz piano loops and Sykes rich and ambiguous vocals. Sykes is part of Rotterdam’s new forward-thinking electronic music scene, gravitating around cultural online platforms such as Operator Radio. He has been championed by DJ, music curator and NTS radio host Carista, who picked his track ‘Take’ for ‘Modern Intimacy Volume 1’, the first compilation album out on her very own United Identities label.

The Antlers Announce ‘Green to Gold’, First New Album In Seven Years – Listen To “Solstice” Now

““Solstice” is a flashback to the infinite days of peak childhood summer, innocent barefoot hikes, staying outside all afternoon and late into the evening, well past it being too dark to see,” lead singer and songwriter Peter Silberman explains. “But it’s remembered from the vantage of a present day that feels unbearably long rather than joyously endless. It’s an invocation of those simpler times, an attempt to conjure the lightness of youth, before life got so damn complicated.”

Sam DeRosa reveals “Unfinished” via NYLON

“Unfinished” serves as the necessary healing before closure. It’s the soundtrack to your aimless yet introspective late-night drives and the weight lifted from your shoulders as you come to terms with reality.

“Some stories don’t get an ending and some people never get a proper goodbye. I knew that I wanted to touch on this idea that maybe this is what it is. Maybe we are just meant to be open-ended and there’s no ending, and there’s no reason for that?” Sam explains, speaking on the inspiration behind the track. “When I wrote ‘Unfinished’ I knew it would be the opening to the EP. It was a song I needed because I couldn’t find one that perfectly fit how I was feeling. I didn’t want the song to feel totally sad though, so I wanted to be able to cry a little but dance through it. Put all those feelings together and BOOM, we made ‘Unfinished.’”

Watch Lael Neale’s “Blue Vein” official video from Acquainted With Night

Lael Neale directs and stars in the official video for “Blue Vein,” the lead single from her forthcoming album Acquainted With Night, out February 19th, 2021 on LP*/CD/DL/CS worldwide through Sub Pop.

“Blue Vein” is her personal anthem. A Paul Revere piece. Galloping through the town as a strident declamation. Neale offers this, “I wrote it around New Year’s Eve and it felt like a resolution.” Indeed, it is an amalgam of thoughts, concerns, and lessons as she nearly speaks the words, unmasked by flourishes, ensuring the meaning cuts through. In the final verse she states that, “some say the truth springs for reservoir seekers, but I think the truth sings to whoever listens” thereby establishing herself as the proverbial carrier pigeon delivering a message.

MENSA DEATHSQUAD Release “Nothing Is Ever Enough” off Upcoming Album Cyclist

Brandon Phillips laid in a Kansas City hospital through the winter of 2019-2020 as his own album release (the unintentionally but appropriately named Patient Zero by his alt-synthwave band Mensa Deathsquad) passed by in the outside world. The first tracks from his debut album Patient Zero were premiering and, chained to a Luciferian merry-go-round of post-operative infections, Brandon strained through the pharmaceutical blur to do promotion for his record, emailing editors and scraping together the necessary pieces they needed. Since his surgery a month prior had gone sideways, and the time, energy, and planning for things like photos, videos and shows had been blown to smithereens, all he had left to look forward to beyond the IVs and the machines that go “ping” was this premiere and the street date. And then came COVID-19, like a rogue wave, to finish off the aimless Mensa Deathsquad sailboat.

Shiver Me TikToks: Sea Shanties, A Potential #1 Debut, and More Unexpected Successes

TikTok’s community-driven approach to content lends itself to unpredictability. Though the community at large has favorite artists, users do not pre-judge music based on the age of the song, the starpower of the artist, or the song’s genre–a banger is a banger. In recent weeks, some seemingly niche artists, songs, and genres have made major moves on the platform and on the music scene at large.

Clash Debuts New Death by Unga Bunga Video “Egocentric”

Norway’s Death by Unga Bunga is back! For over a decade, Death by Unga Bunga (aka DBUB) has dealt its own blend of highly energetic, rough and rowdy rock ‘n’ roll and wavy psychedelia that has been hailed as “a pleasure-center bullseye” (Stereogum) and “a time capsule to pure 1960s Britpop” (NPR). The band, which merges the cheekiness of Turbonegro with the arena-filling hooks of Cheap Trick, and sound like “the Ramones if they were produced by Mutt Lange” (All Music), will release its sixth studio LP, ‘Heavy Male Insecurity’, on February 12 via Jansen Records.
