Dr. Dre-collaborator Reza Safinia filters classical & electronics through spiritual lens on ‘Yin’ LP out 3/12/21

Reza Safinia is a multi-instrumentalist composer and producer raised in London and living in Los Angeles. Prior to working in film he was a songwriter and record producer/engineer with work spanning from pop to underground. He has toured with Destiny’s Child and worked with artists as diverse as Dr. Dre, Britney Spears and underground UK rapper Akala.

His influences are a tapestry of romantic era classical music such as Debussy and Satie, Hip Hop, as well as a shifting spectrum of electronics and shamanistic music. His textured approach fuses orchestra with contemporary production, exploring soundscape as much as harmony and melding the two to serve the image in a tactile way.

Michael C. Hall, Peter Yanowitz & Matt Katz-Bohen As Trio Princess Goes To The Butterfly Museum Releases “Armageddon Suite”

Princess Goes To The Butterfly Museum eschews traditional rock instrumentation in favor of stripped-down synthesizer-and-drum attack. A wealth of disparate influences flow into Princess Goes to the Butterfly Museum’s songs – the glam, experimental, ambient music of David Bowie, Giorgio Moroder’s ‘70s disco productions for Donna Summer, ‘80s new wave dance music, contemporary electronic dance acts like Justice, and the roster of France’s Ed Banger label. A theatrical sensibility is part of the trio’s DNA, especially in live shows, having met several years ago on Broadway during the production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

Laura Veirs shares new “Freedom Feeling” video

“About a year ago I was hanging out at the lodge at Breitenbush Hot Springs in the Oregon mountains and a woman came up and said hi. Turns out we had met many years ago a couple of times through our exes. The woman’s name was Molly. Molly’s daughter was there, too, and we got to talking. Her name is Story Lowe and she’s a 14-year-old airel hoop dancer and choreographer. I had been thinking at that time about a video that incorporated hoop dancing so we exchanged numbers. A few months later I chose my song “Freedom Feeling” for this treatment and Story took on the challenge of working on this piece. She worked for the entire summer of 2020 under lockdown, spinning safely at her community studio in Bellingham, WA. Portland Filmmaker Devin Febbroriello drove to Bellingham and filmed this socially-distanced in November 2020. After editing the choreography Devin added some dreamy colored overlays. I love how this video turned out! Thanks to all who made it happen, especially Story, who threw her heart, soul and body into it.” – Laura Veirs

The Mandevilles – LIGHTNING out now

It’s been more than five years since the release of our last record, Windows and Stones. After a long period of songwriting, we are getting in touch to share “Lightning” with you, a new track which reflects the masochistic side of a past relationship.

For a long time I romanticized everything about it, reminiscing over the pleasure within the pain. Eventually, I woke up to the reality that it just didn’t work, but there’s still this sick thrill from going through hell for someone you think you’re meant to be with.

JULIANA. Releases New Single “Love Preview”

“I couldn’t be more excited to start off 2021 with my new single and video ‘Love Preview’,” shares JULIANA. “It’s a song that’s meant to be lighthearted and positive considering we could all use that extra glimpse of hope in a new year. I have always been someone who writes songs based on my personal experiences, and this one is no different. I wrote ‘Love Preview’ during the beginning stages of a crush, where everything was peachy keen and delusional. It’s the moment where you barely know the person, but you feel so infatuated and blinded to reality that you think you’re falling in love. I think a lot of people have felt something similar, so I hope it can strike a familiar chord with everyone listening.”

The very last thing you want to do is get on the wrong side of Hellz as she proves this maxim, tearing your heart out with her bare hands whilst smiling with a warmth that could outshine a thousand suns. With her usual glorious mix of heaviness and unique vocals that are some of the best in rock, Hellz leads the way.”

Danielle Durack Debuts New Single/Video “There Goes My Heart” via UPROXX, New LP Out This Friday

An aching ballad with a “crying-over-the-piano kind of conception,” the song is the centerpiece of Durack’s heartbreak album: “When I wrote this song, I was at a point where every day felt like a mountain to climb. Little movements like getting out of bed, making food, social interactions, and other very ordinary things were laborious activities. I wanted to visually encapsulate that feeling of a broken heart and what it looks like in an everyday context,” explains Durack of the Kristine Morgan-directed clip, which debuted earlier today alongside a feature at UPROXX. Much like the entirety of No Place, Durack says “There Goes My Heart” is “full of raw, unrelenting pain but a clarity of purpose and a clear view of the light at the end of the tunnel.”

Healy Releases Sophomore Album Tungsten Today

“I’ve spent my whole life running from who I’m becoming. I finally took off my armor and made this project. It’s as vulnerable as it is understated—and it’s not perfect, but it’s me. I used to be scared of dying, and I’ve held the hardest grudge against time for as long as I can remember. But this album helped me let go and find peace in impermanence. I look at albums like furnished little worlds we can escape to, and I’ve been living in Tungsten for the last 3 years, leaving the fridge door open, watering the ivy, falling asleep with the lights on, and leaving little notes and surprises hidden in the small places for you. Now, Tungsten is yours to live in for as long as you’d like. I hope it gives you the closure it gave me.” – Healy
