The single explores the crippling financial struggle that Havelock faces as an aspiring full-time artist in London. Using vivid imagery to describe the city as an ‘old machine’, Havelock likens his insignificant existence to a ‘cog that’s turning’ and a ‘pipe that’s bursting’. The feel of the track is reminiscent of industrial dub and reggae styles, and he describes his struggles playfully in verse 2 with a charismatic rap to really bring the story to life and to show his versatility as an artist. This song was brought into existence as a result of Havelock’s disdain of working dead-end jobs that he took no interest in.

“This song is one of the bedroom jams of the album. We both grew big fans of The-Dream and wanted to make something with that delivery and attitude he always brought. The EP is produced by Rudi Zygadlo, and is a mesmerising, electrifying and distinctive release that reflects on love in every aspect, from love of music, friendship, and falling out of love, something which is certainly topical in such a time of uncertainty in the world. May often weaves a lopsided, leftfeld approach to innovative and experimental rap, which has often been highlighted further by working with the likes of Mica Levi, Joe Goddard of Hot Chip, Kwes, Kate Tempest and and Mount Kimbie, and ‘Love is in Demand’ is another example of his fascinating execution of this.

numün (mems SUSS, Gamelan Dharma Swara) Releases “first steps” Single (new music/ambient/deep listening)
Here are quotes from Bob Holmes and Christopher Romero about it: Quote from Bob Holmes: There are two things that I really like about this song. The first is that it reminds me of a child’s pop-up book, in that in starts off very flat, and then in the middle you turn a page and a beautiful 3D landscape pops up right in front of your eyes, seemingly out of nowhere. Second, the song has this beautiful coda with the fretless banjo that reminds me of the end of Buffalo Springfield’s “Bluebird” and like that song, a completely psychedelic song turns into a peaceful interlude when you least expect it.

“EASTER ISLAND” is about wanting to be anywhere but where you are, but also deep down knowing that everything I’m looking for is already here. I think we all live with that feeling to some level – that IT is always somewhere else, always some person to become or place to get to, but it’s not, it’s all just us. It’s kinda taken on a whole new meaning now with not being able to really go anywhere – I’ve been romanticizing everywhere but have no choice but to find it inside.
