Nocturnis was founded in summer 2018 by singer Raphael Matzat, guitarist Lukas Wenzel, drummer Christian Burg and bassist Dirk Schoening. Already in the first rehearsals it became clear in which direction it should go musically. Guitarist Vincent Padrutt joined the band in April 2019 and the line-up was complete. The first concerts were played from September 2019, all of which were well attended. The appearance at the “Heretic Hordes” in Paderborn deserves special mention. Over the winter of 2019, the first EP “Aporia” was recorded on its own and mastered by Christoph Brandes at the Iguana Studios. This has been published on July 18, 2020.

His inspiration and passion for starting The Nomadic began early on as a child after traveling to many countries like Myanmar (formerly Burma), Singapore and the Solomon Islands. His “nomadic” lifestyle continued on into his adulthood when he began to work for the United Nations in various countries such as: Kenya, Somalia, the Sudan, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Israel and Palestine. His travels eventually brought him to New York in September of 2012 and motivated him to pursue his songwriting by establishing an indie rock band.

The video highlights the surroundings that inspired my music and lifestyle from an early age. Oregon is an incredible place. I don’t think people fully understand how beautiful and diverse the landscape is there. I grew up surfing, snowboarding, and playing music all over Oregon. The state has everything you could want to be inspired, but with the juxtaposition of the PNW’s gloom, fog, rain, and cold.
