On the eve of what would have been Emmett Till’s 79th birthday, the Paris-based, London-born artist ALA.NI is sharing the new song “Lament for Emmett Till.” A sparse, achingly-beautiful track, it recites a 1955 poem of the same name by the radical activist, journalist and organizer Claudia Jones. This campaign is supported by the Emmett Till Legacy Foundation, of which ALA.NI is an official ambassador of. The foundation is currently asking the public sign a petition demanding justice for Till and, specifically, that the FBI release the findings of their recent reinvestigation into his murder as a matter of urgency.

Today, GRAMMY-winning rapper Lupe Fiasco and Orlando producer Kaelin Ellis released their collaborative EP HOUSE via 1st & 15th / Thirty Tigers. The EP came together by chance — on May 5th, Lupe was tagged on Twitter in the replies of a Tweet from Kaelin Ellis, a rising producer who had been posting clips of himself creating beats in lockdown. Reading “Get this to @LupeFiasco somehow,” Lupe listened, liked the beat, screen recorded Kaelin’s video, dropped it in GarageBand, freestyled over the beat, exported it in Quicktime, then Tweeted the song just a few hours after he first saw the mention.

Lyrique Shares New Video for “Smoke Break”
Philippines-born, Calgary-based hip hop act Lyrique is releasing the video for his single, “Smoke Break,” a narcotic-infused reflection on love and cannabis that swirls to a chill rap beat.
“When creating lyrics, I sometimes like to use objects as metaphors to dig into other topics,” says Lyrique. “In this case, I’m comparing the sensation of a drug-induced daze to the feelings of being in love.”
