18-Year-Old Rapper, J.I. the Prince of NY Announces Partnership With Spotify For Its Radar Emerging Artists Program
Today, Spotify announces their newest RADAR partnership with NYC-based rapper, J.I. the Prince of NY. The bourgeoning G*Starr Ent./Geffen recording artist got his start freestyling with his brothers at the age of 11, within a few years he began posting his freestyles on Instagram, and soon caught the attention of legendary rapper/producer/executive Jermaine Dupri. Naming iconic artists like Tupac Shakur, Big Pun and DMX among his influences, he dropped his debut single “No Static” in 2016 and by the end of that year, the then-15-year-old had garnered more than 500,000 views on his YouTube channel.
The duo made up of 18 year old MC Dew Haydn and 22 year old rapper/producer blackrobeBLACKROBES, make music with pertinent social, cultural, and personal topics including civil rights, mental illness, cyberbullying, and more. With an emphasis on capturing what it’s like to grow up in the age of the internet as well as in two of the toughest neighborhoods in Chicago LLD looks to be a voice for an online generation while still maintaining a hyper awareness for the multitude of injustices that exist in our world today. Fusing industrial percussion and obscure samples, LLD’s sound is as harsh & unapologetic as it is tender & cautious.
