Martin Khanja (aka Lord Spike Heart) and Sam Karugu emerge from Nairobi’s flourishing underground metal scene as former members of the bands Lust of a Dying Breed and Seeds of Datura. Together in 2019 they formed Duma (Darkness in swahili) with Sam abandoning bass for production and guitars and Lord Spike Heart providing extreme vocals to the project.

Both Ellie and Lauv share a passion for mental health advocacy, frequently using their platforms to raise awareness about anxiety and depression. Ellie is known for speaking honestly about mental health issues and has been part of several music industry initiatives to tackle the mental health crisis among young people, including AMP London conference panel hosted by Annie Mac, March 2020. In 2019, Lauv founded the Blue Boy Foundation which supports initiatives which help young people feel more comfortable reaching out for mental health help and feel better equipped to help friends get connected with care. He’s also been sharing conversations with fellow musicians and artists about modern relationships, life and loneliness in his podcast series, Breaking Modern Loneliness.

LUMINARIES Release Social Distancing Video For “FLATTEN THE CURVE”
Following the release last month of the benefit track “FLATTEN THE CURVE” which features members of Minutemen, Runaways, Redd Kross, and more artists and bands from the punk, indie and hard rock world, the wide array of contributing musicians decided to create a video to accompany the track. Sequestered and observing social distancing guidelines and rules, many of those participating in the track submitted self-shot footage for the fun and arresting video which premiered on BrooklynVegan.
