ICYMI: Alt-Pop songstress ALITA drops new single “Too Close”

ALITA is sure to captivate with her new single “Too Close,” a breakup ballad that explores the relatable musings of two people figuring out what they mean to one another. In a compelling twist, she flips the script and unpacks her own ‘situationship’ anxieties by telling the story from her partner’s perspective. According to ALITA the song came from reflection over her own past experience, sharing “it’s that moment of fear in a new relationship, when you realize you’re past the point of return – you’re past the moment when this person is just a new face in your life. Now their presence carries weight and meaning, you start wondering when they’re going to call or text, you can’t stop thinking about them. And then, the commitment issues start to show up…” While the song has a nonchalant vibe overall, ALITA admits that “cutting things off is really hard and releasing this song feels like a bookend to that whole situation.”

JOE NIX – DEBUT SINGLE – ‘YIKES’

Camouflaging the bruises & scrapes of finding your feet on your own terms with a breezy sleight of hand, ‘Yikes’ brims with 23 year old Londoner Nix’s laidback savvy. It’s a resilience shaped during a childhood defined by motion & progression, ever since work commitments took his parents – with a young Joe in tow – from Birmingham to South America. Going on to spend two years immersed in life in Paraguay, the family’s eventual return to the UK – relocating in quick succession between Essex, Birmingham and Blackpool, all before Joe had turned 4 years old – was fraught with change. Bumpy by anyone’s standards, it’s a period Joe is fairly sanguine looking back on, aside from the loss of total fluency in Spanish & native Paraguayan language Guarani. “When we got back to the UK my Mum just stopped speaking to me in Spanish and it’s totally gone – I need to get myself on Duolingo!”

New Holy Hive Single/Video “Be Thou By My Side”

Holy Hive release their new single and video for “Be Thou By My Side”. They cover Honeybus’ obscure cult classic, a beautifully written and performed song by a relatively unknown artist which has almost been forgotten since its original release in 1972 . Paul’s honeyed falsetto is a perfect match for the tune. Paul sings and accompanies himself on guitar with nothing more than a tambourine playing along. The video stays in the same lane as the tune, a stripped down one take performance piece where Spring is the center of the frame surrounded by microphones. The contradiction of all things pressing Paul for his performance up against his relaxed and sincere demeanor speak volumes about the spirit of Holy Hive. Enjoy the video and the new song, debut album Float Back To You is out worldwide March 29th produced by Homer Steinweiss.

Continental Five aka Two Five – ‘Wanksta 2.0’

Coming straight outta Southside, Jamaica Queens, Underground hip hop legend Continental Five drops one of the biggest records this first quarter titled “Wanksta 2.0” which is a remake of the classic Wanksta song that was written and performed by Continental Five’s older cousin 50 cent just some years ago. What separates the song from the original is the amazing remake of the beat which features a more defined basslane and creative hook. It’s not very often that we hear an artist recreate a record that is just as good as the original.

DONNA MISSAL RELEASES “HURT BY YOU” (STRIPPED)

Today, Donna Missal shared a stripped-down version of “Hurt By You.” Accompanied simply by piano, her moving performance is a reminder that, as MTV News observed, “[her] powerhouse voice…can absolutely tear you to shreds.” The song was produced by Andrew Wells (X Ambassadors, Fitz and the Tantrums, Bebe Rexha) and Tommy King, who plays piano on the track. “Hurt By You” is the first official single from Donna’s new album, which will be released later this year by Harvest Records.

Camille Delean – Shares: ‘Go Easy’

Whilst becoming something of a staple on the East Coast Canadian music scene over the past few years, supporting the likes Timber Timbre, Fink and Andy Shauf along the way, the new album trails Delean’s 2017 debut, Music On the Grey Mile, an album that introduced the artist’s distinct palette. Whereas her first record was a cumulative travelogue, a reflection of disorientated years on the move, Cold House Burning summons a present-tense examination of its opposite: a troubled settling down. Inertia brought on by illness developed a feedback loop of sorts, a spiralling sense of solitude; it was a strictly interior world decorated with isolation, homebound routines, and internal dialogues, pieced together with little victories.
