Artist and producer Samuel Proffitt is excited to announce his upcoming EP Shades will be released via Nettwerk on July 24th. Samuel, who is also working towards his PhD at Brown University, takes inspiration from personal writings, poetry, and his interest in philosophy. Shades revolves around exploration of a particular psychological locus that manifests itself following moments of extreme anguish and trauma, a re-breaking. He is inspired by the concept of shade from Greek and Roman mythology, which is when a spirit or ghost must pay a debt to pass into the underworld or be forced to wander for eternity.
➕ LISTEN ➕ Ominous new synth-pop single “Bad For Me” from multifaceted band LOWBORN
While their previous tracks take on more of a rock-influence, multifaceted band LOWBORN’s new single “Bad For Me” contains eerie, heavy pop-synth beats with lightning-like vocals from Wes Lauterbach. Created in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, “Bad For Me” feels incredibly ominous and relatable. With its inspiration rooted in the fear of change, “Bad For Me” acknowledges bad behavior that, while fun and exciting, ends up creating further damage.

“Forever” is a track from NYC-based artist Carly Shea
Carly says the following about the music video: “This was put together by a talented video artist, Riviera (@rivirrs) — he took random clips I had from a trip to Amsterdam. The clips were shot by a new friend I randomly made there on a solo trip. It was my birthday– we ran around exploring the city running from thrift stores to coffee shops having a great time.”
Very Very – “Daydreams”
Her new single – “Daydreams” – marks the second offering from her forthcoming Badlands EP. A haunting lullabye, the song plays with cheerful tones and playful melodies that mask a dark truth; just beneath the surface lies a violent battle between the artist’s love and enmity.
G59 rapper Shakewell debuts new song and video Late Night
Today, Los Angeles rapper Shakewell debuts his breezy new cut and head-spinning visual “Late Night,” the lead single from his forthcoming album Long Haired Dragon releasing via G59 Records / Caroline. Produced by Dretta, Shakewell doesn’t take any chances as he raps about his after-hours hustle over the melodic beat. The song is his first official release on G59 Records, home to artists $uicideBoy$, Germ, Night Lovell and Ramirez.
“I wrote the song as kind of a commentary on my own experience being both an addict and an artist at the same time. On the one hand, I’ve had this ability to make music that reaches millions of people and has created all sorts of success in many areas in my life but on the other hand there’s always that urge to clean up my act for the sake of my brain and long-term health,” explains Shakewell.

Nashville-based Colorado-bred singer/songwriter Michelle Mandico has released Something New, a three-song collaboration with NYC jazz pianist Eunha So. The pair met while attending college at the University of Denver in 2012. “On Something New, the artists merge styles,” says Quip Magazine. “Mandico’s vocals shine with depth and softness throughout the tracks, while So’s melodies keep afloat a wistful, romantic hope. The piano succeeds in leveling these love songs, opening each track to the possibility of tenderness that rings more authentic than maudlin. All in all, Something New makes for an affecting teaser of songs from two talented upcoming musicians. So’s exquisite piano complements Mandico’s brand of sensitive Americana, adding layers of emotionality to the gentle and naturalistic style.” “Besides my sister, she was the first pianist I hired to play in my band because she could play anything,” says Mandico. “As we got to know each other more, we both were thinking that we wanted to write some music together,” adds So. “At the time, we were mostly performing Michelle’s original music with a band in Denver venues, but we thought it might be cool to bring my jazz side into our music.”
Dark Folk Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist Rett Smith – releases New Single “Better Day “
American Songwriter aptly states, ” ‘Better Day’ has a certain confessional intimacy. Smith, in a somber, hushed voice, sings about a failed relationship and the resulting depression. The lyrics display a poetic, if damaged, romanticism, especially when he shows a bruised hopefulness for a reconciliation. A gentle female vocal provides a beautiful harmony on the chorus, though it is Smith’s world-weary voice throughout, with its world-weary rasp, that truly gives the song its emotional depth. The sparse instrumentation – delicately chiming guitar, subdued percussion and spare bass lines – shows Smith’s “less is more” approach, allowing the lyrical sentiments to take center stage.”
MICHAEL BUONO Shares Darkly Spirited Video for Single “Rescue”
