Brian Mietz “Hollyweed” Single

Philadelphia is considered the nation’s hotbed for independent music. However, many often overlook the area of South Jersey that is just a stone’s throw from the city. Brian Mietz is a South Jersey native that has been pushing out catchy tongue-in-cheek indie music for well over a decade. Last year, his weezer-worship band, Cabana Wear, released their self-titled debut. Now he is set to release his debut solo effort, Panzarotti. You might be wondering what a panzarotti is and we’re here to help with that. It’s basically a softball sized pocket of deep fried dough that is full of cheese and pizza sauce. It’s warm, gooey, and delicious much like the music that makes up Brian’s new album. You can find out for yourself by listening to his new single “Hollyweed.” The track is a real earworm built on layers of keyboards, fuzzed out guitars, and vocal melodies.

The Colonies Announce New Single “More Than Fine”

Combining the style of The Strokes with the easy-going energy of surf-rock, The Colonies separate themselves from the rest by providing a unique take on DIY culture. Their music, while both relatable and insanely catchy, is simultaneously raw and uncut– adding a layer of authenticity and grounding the band firmly in their D.C. roots.

Formed in 2015, The Colonies first met and began playing together in the basement of their college freshman dorm at George Washington University. Lacking proper recording space and resources from the university, Founding members Pete Stevens (guitar and vocals) and Joey Mamlin (drums) did what they could to record, often tracking only one instrument at a time with a rudimentary knowledge of Pro Tools. Eventually they caught the eye of Searcher Records, GW’s brand-new student-run record label, and began performing shows with bassist Jordan Mullaney and guitarist Dylan Trupiano to punch out the live element and add texture to their sound.
