No Swoon’s fantastic self-titled new album is out today on Substitute Scene Records!
Brooklyn-based No Swoon opens their self-titled debut LP with startling admissions. “I don’t know what’s my own,” Tasha Abbott confesses on the lead track. “I don’t know what’s controlled.” Her confusion is warranted given what feels like everyone’s current mental state—increasingly critical, and frustrated with everything from misogyny to global power imbalance—and she and Zack Nestel-Patt explore such themes in reciprocal form over the course of nine searingly critical tracks. Abbott’s distorted guitars and hypnotic vocals, cradled by Nestel-Patt’s lulling synths, are the musical equivalent of a fever dream recalled with surprising sharpness.

Yajna, The Swedish Phoenix, Rises from the Ashes
Growing up in the small village of Vittangi in the northernmost part of Sweden, Yajna has overcome clinical depression and the male-dominated world of extreme sports to become one of the most successful businesswomen in the country and now turns her focus to her first love – music. Her first English-language release is You Are Beautiful, the first of a trilogy of tracks she’s entitled The Rising Phoenix, a reflection of her personal journey from her lowest ebb to empowerment and success.
Clay Parton, Jason Albertini, and Canaan Dove Amber make “Experimental depressed music” that feels at once immensely personal and universally atmospheric. Devotees new and old have scrambled to find and share their music for years but in 2019, Numero Group brought them back into the collective conscious with Capsule Losing Contact, a re-issue box-set that included 1998’s Stratosphere, their 1999 EP 1975, and 2000’s Contemporary Movement along with previously unreleased tracks. The boxset sold out almost overnight, as did a string of live shows no one anticipated after years of silence. Contemporary indie artists like Snail Mail and Sandy Alex G have cited Duster as an influence and asked the band to play with them at their respective shows. The bands resurgence is a testament to how timeless their music remains.
On the track, his voice takes flight above throwback production steeped in nineties style and spirit. On confessional verses, he declares, “Don’t act like I ain’t changed your life, because we both know the truth.” Meanwhile, the refrain showcases the crooner’s immense and impressive range as his falsetto soars.

Away moves slowly but methodically, the smooth swells gradually climaxing in a sublime cascade of sine waves and delicate piano work.
