King Von Shows Off Storytelling and Versatility on Debut Mixtape Grandson Vol. 1
King Von is one of rap’s most visceral and animated storytellers, packing detail and wit into every bar. Finally showing the full range of his rap abilities, the Only The Family rapper shares Grandson, Vol. 1, his debut mixtape. Delving deep into Von’s past, the new tape positions him as the heir to a long line of Chicago gangsters, including Black Disciples founder “King” David Barksdale, from whom Von derives his rap name. Building off a series of buzzing singles and guest appearances, Grandson, Vol. 1 provides a compelling portrait of the Only The Family signee, providing insight into his family upbringing, his stints in prison, and his grappling with rap fame.

Ruston Kelly debuts live version of Wheatus’ “Teenage Dirtbag”
Dirt Emo Vol. 1, which will be released October 11 via Rounder Records and is now available for pre-order. The eight-song release consists of Kelly’s favorite emo songs including a rendition of Dashboard Confessional’s “Screaming Infidelities,” featuring the band’s lead singer Chris Carrabba, as well as Kelly’s previously released versions of The Carter Family’s “Weeping Willow” and Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well.” Originally released as an Amazon Original, Kelly’s “All Too Well” received widespread critical acclaim as well as attention from Swift herself. Of the song, Billboard declares, “Kelly puts his own haunting spin on the track with yearning vocals, delicate percussion and soaring instrumentation,” while UPROXX praises, “…his rendition is a beautiful tribute to the raw emotionality of the original. He makes the song his own with atmospheric instrumentals, replacing Swift’s driving percussion with drums that sound more soft and searching.”
