London-based singer-songwriter Just Charlii has released her sophomore EP ‘Phoenix’, out Friday 13th September.
An exciting collection of modern R&B tracks, ‘Phoenix’ is named after Charlii’s rebirth and truly captures the essence of the project. Things kicks off with the heartbreak and lament of ‘Because Of Her’, before delving into the mental health-addressing honesty of ‘Blessings’. The sultry ‘Do You Right’, one of two tracks from the EP already released as singles, then sees Just Charlii’s eye-catching vocals take centre stage amidst a flurry of mutated vocal samples, twitchy snares and sparse drums. The other single, ‘Take Note’, is the record’s final track and an ultra-smooth conclusion to an accomplished collection of work.
“Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you don’t want to be in, like a stormy relationship that does nothing but cause destruction, or a fire that you can’t extinguish? One can only take so much, rest assured it will not last forever. No…’This Is Not A Love Song’.”
Once Upon A Passion is the debut album from Bella Boo, arriving on Studio Barnhus after a sprinkling of releases through the label that have quickly established the currently LA-based producer (and long time Stockholm DJ hero) as one of dance music’s most distinctive new voices.
JPEGMAFIA’s highly-anticipated new album, All My Heroes Are Cornballs, is out today on EQT Recordings. The album follows his breakthrough record Veteran, which marked a critical and commercial turning point for him. His unmistakeable persona, eccentric production, and invigorating live shows have all led to widespread critical acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork (“a rapper who consistently keeps my attention on the mic, and one of hip-hop’s most gifted producers”), The FADER (“a force to be reckoned with”), Billboard (“He’s one of the most unique rappers on the planet, a guiding force that links the political, the personal, and the artistic”) and many more.
The track premiered via Impose Magazine where ZAALWE detailed, “‘Lakeside’ is an ode to a breakup that coincidentally happened the day of the solar eclipse in August of 2017. The whole sunny and groovy 70’s sounding timbre was definitely inspired by songwriter Laura Nyro, who I got particularly into when I had recently learned that she lived on the same road I grew up on.”
Walrus (Besnard Lakes, Dead Meadow) | Share Chad VanGaalen-directed Video & New Single
‘Half-Smoke’ is taken from the band’s forthcoming second album, ‘Cool To Who’ which is set for release via Outside Music (Besnard Lakes, Tinariwen) on October 18, 2019. The new clip is a lysergic trip that finds animated alien shapes warping into diamonds and goblins twisting into melting castles, something that Chad – who previously directed videos for Daniel Romano and Timber Timbre – looked to synchronise to the band’s track’s propelling rhythm and fuzzy guitars.
San Francisco based indie rocker Chris Ahlman has released his track “Rollin On The Wind’ Internationally. Having played over 100 shows so far this year Chris noted that wherever he played this track instantly builds a connection with his audience.
This folksy indie song was written in memory of Michael’s friend who sadly lost his battle with mental health, as the songwriter says: “It shocked me how much we wear masks every day & how hard it is to see what is bubbling away underneath. Most of the time I feel that this song is not my song to sing, but then I remember the solution of all this is to talk more openly and be prepared to share our inner demons with friends and loved ones.
