Skope single submission: J.Lately, “Run”. The Grouch, Blimes on new album

Lately says “Run” is about “getting out of your own head and just going after what it is you know you truly want. Me and Space Cadet made this beat together the first weekend that we started working on the album. It was one of like 10 beats that we made that weekend, and I started writing to like 3 or 4 of them. Later that week I just ended up combining all the songs on this beat because I realized I was talking about the same thing in all of them. It was just really like exactly where I was at the time, and I had to get it off before I could move on. After that the whole album just kind of just flowed together from there.”

COLORADO was recorded mostly live in the studio in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and produced by Young and John Hanlon with additional mixing at Shangri-La Studios in Malibu. Mastering by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering, Hollywood. As with every Young release, the resultant audio fidelity is nothing short of astonishing and sounds as if one is present on the studio floor with the band during the recording.

“Their songs have a nursery rhyme-like quirkiness, full of loopy keyboard riffs and buoyant choruses, but the theme that runs through all of them is the same: be open about life’s difficulties, but optimistic about what the future holds.” Bandcamp Daily

“…feels like a nursery rhyme in the best way.” Stereogum

No Vacation announce the release of Phasing with “Estrangers”

Sung in a calm whisper over meandering guitar and a bossa nova-reminiscent groove, “Estrangers” is the latest indulgence from Brooklyn’s ethereal dream-pop group No Vacation. Originally begun at a house party in late 2016, “Estrangers” took longer than most songs to complete. In spite of personal struggles and feelings of estrangement, the song was eventually finished in early 2019 with the addition of Romantic Era-inspired cello parts, resulting in the song’s beautifully nostalgic string climax that sings with pure, cutting emotion.

At just 18-years-old, Griff made an immediate impact earlier this summer with her empowered but affecting debut single, “Mirror Talk,” via Warner Records. Jutes grew up on a farm in Kars, Ontario before making the jump to Toronto to attend film school. Shortly after, he dropped out to pursue music full-time. A rock kid at heart – influenced by bands of the late ‘90s and early ‘00s like Third Eye Blind and the Red Hot Chili Peppers – his style is a hybrid of alternative, pop-punk, and hip-hop. While fitting into today’s current genre-blending sound, Jutes stands out as a true artist with his emotionally honest lyrics, raw vocals, and alternative production over a knocking bass. Now based in LA, he is currently working on his major label debut EP.
