The latest from the “mightiest voice coming out of the East Coast of Canada” (CBC Music) taps into the effervescent aura that has accompanied Harris throughout her lauded career. Evoking shades of powerhouse alt-pop artists such as Florence + The Machine, Hannah Georgas, and Sara Bareilles, the track roots itself in propulsive piano lines. Supported by elegant string & horn arrangements, subtle yet ever-present hand claps, and bewitching guitar stabs, “Uproar” is graciously spirited. Them Coulee Boys from Eau Claire, Wisconsin proudly share Die Happy via LoHi Records. Die Happy, the third from Them Coulee Boys (and first on LoHi Records) is nothing short of magic. Recorded at Pachyderm Studios in Cannon Falls, Minnesota (Nirvana, PJ Harvey, Son Volt) and alongside producer Dave Simonett of Trampled by Turtles. “I have always written songs to help me heal and to help me cry and laugh,” Stevens explains. “Many people don’t like tears; they are afraid of pain, they want to walk away…When after I play someone says ‘You are the most vulnerable,’ I consider it the biggest compliment. Still, it means cracking my heart open like an egg at every show.”
“The song (“Woke Up Late”) addresses the intimacies of a relationship, made more so by the sensualness of the sound, plus the personal feeling of having a lack of commitment and being accustomed to space. The temptation to be with other people, however, doesn’t necessarily mean romantically but just the natural need to be socially around those closest to you.” – Atwood
