The AFROPUNK Brooklyn Festival taking place this weekend August 24th-25th at Commodore Barry Park in Brooklyn, New York has announced that blues-rock powerhouse Brittany Howard has been added to the line-up as a Sunday headliner. To commemorate her addition to the lineup, she is being celebrated throughout the day on AFROPUNK.com, where they will be premiering her new live video for her single ‘Stay High’, directed by Danny Clinch. She joins an already incredible lineup that includes Jill Scott, FKA Twigs, Kamasi Washington, Gary Clark, Jr., Santigold, Lianne La Havas, Danny Brown. Exploring the tender emotions of late teendom and early 20s turmoil, Strum validates the mundane, no emotion is wasted. “None of the things are about massive changes or massive terrible things that happened, or big breakups,” he says. “It’s all songs about little things and it’s also fine to be affected by little things.” Whimsical, yet wistful, textured but not overwhelming, Strum fuses acoustic and electronic instrumentation, rife with electric guitar riffs which nestle into synth loops. Glow is a purposeful arrangement and a slight divergence from Japanese Wallpaper’s prior strictly electronic base. Another artistic choice employed on Glow is the absence of featured singers — or rather, the emergence of Strum’s own voice.

An avowed Anglophile, author, English professor and irrepressible Los Angeles based songwriter John Andrew Fredrick is about to release his 17th full-length as lead songsmith of the black watch. ‘Magic Johnson’ is released in the UK through Atom records on the 8th of August 2019.
It reunites Fredrick with Scott Campbell (Acetone, Carina Round, Stevie Nicks), Andy Creighton (The World Record), and Rob Campanella (The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Tyde) released by Atom Records in the UK in August. Fredrick’s songs are infused with bittersweet sunlit vibes distinctive of what he calls a ‘quintessentially LA record’, yet its influenced by his love of 80s English post-punk, Flying Nun records, C-86 and the psychedelic works of The Beatles.
It’s preceded by the lead single ‘Mad’ in June that’s wry, infectious songwriting is a jangly, joyous celebration of a lover’s craziness, that’s sideways romp stokes the distant embers of acts as disparate as The Wedding Present, The Go-Betweens and The Cure, yet remains distinctively the black watch a band due the attention they genuinely deserve in the country that inspired much of their sound.

The Sidekicks Release New Song “Feed II”
Cleveland indie rockers The Sidekicks have released a new single “Feed II”. A commentary on feeling like we need to present everything we do on social media, the song follows a series of singles from the band which include; “People’s Court” and “Ode To Jerry”. “Feed II is about the constant online projection of self and the ensuing feedback loop this creates between those needing to see & be seen in this manner,” notes vocalist Steve Ciolek.

With it’s gated vocal pads, energetic basslines and overall emphasis on atmosphere, the tune right here takes us back to the early times of classic trance sounds, but with a modern level of production. The tune is indeed very atmospheric thanks to all the pads and sounds used, as well as the excellent transitions between breaks and beats, giving the tune great cohesion and consistency and further reinforcing the trancy atmosphere. The track has good energy too, thanks to the great selection of drums and percussion, as well as the added percussion to keep things moving forward.
