The influence of 80s radio artists like Sade, The Blue Mile and the maestro of rockin’ after midnight Marvin Gaye, permeate the record – blended with modern day downtempo influences. Napoleon (AKA Antoine) traces these influences back to listening to the radio as a kid.

“I think I associate my first encounters with insomnia to a period of my childhood when my parents were constantly listening to this Belgian radio station called RTL2, on which they’d always play this kind of music. The songs trigger emotions linked to my childhood and they really speak to me. I wanted to add similar textures and vibes into this album”.

Tom Boy – ‘Wastecase’

“”Wastecase” is a somewhat self-prophetic song. I was in the studio working with another songwriter while we were experiencing some internal issues with our former band CAIRO. Tour scheduling wasn’t lining up the way we wanted it to and, in my eyes, there were certain people to blame. My temper was out of control at that time – I was drinking on top of my doubts about CAIRO.”

SINGER/SONGWRITER/GUITARIST MICHAEL SACKLER-BERNER’S NEW VIDEO “DEATH TO THE UPTIGHT” HAS EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE TODAY ON THE JEWISH JOURNAL

Of “Death To The Uptight”, MSB commented, “The song started as a slice of life, Americana thing about a corrupt, broken country with people living like hamsters in a wheel. Sound familiar? ‘Wouldn’t it be great if just for a moment everything was alright,’ was something Tom Petty said between songs at a concert I saw around the time I was writing the lyrics. His comment was a perfectly vague and optimistic counterpoint or solution to the dark view of the world I had painted in the verses. So, I tweaked it a bit, and used it for the chorus…The video ended up being an identity trip. Sometimes I don’t really know who I am, or how I am being perceived, and I feel disjointed. At best, I am a combination of lots of things that results in the more grounded, composed version of myself that sits in the driver’s seat and sings the songs I write”.

NEAL FRANCIS TO RELEASE HIS DEBUT STUDIO ALBUM “CHANGES”

“I just wanted to be honest about everything, from my musical influences to my story,” muses Neal Francis. After years of dishonest living — consumed by drugs, alcohol, and addiction — such sincerity is jarring from the 30-year-old Chicago-based musician. Liberated from a self-destructive past and born anew in sobriety, Francis has captured an inspired collection of songs steeped in New Orleans rhythms and Chicago blues. His music evokes a bygone era of R&B’s heyday while simultaneously forging a new path on the musical landscape. Ohio-based Karma Chief Records (a subsidiary of rising soul label Colemine Records) have already released two singles earlier this year, “These Are The Days” and “Changes, Pt. 1”, with the full LP Changes to follow this fall.

Little Scream hits a groove on latest single from Speed Queen, “Still Life”

Speed Queen is the title of Little Scream’s new album, set to arrive on October 25. It’s a record that Little Scream (a.k.a. Today, Little Scream shares a slice of escapism from the record, the gently grooving “Still Life,” which paints a picture of “complicated chaos” and “a sophisticated daydream.”

STEREOPHONICS RETURN WITH NEW SONG “FLY LIKE AN EAGLE”

Recorded in just eleven days at The Distillery, Wiltshire, Kind was co-produced by Kelly Jones and George Drakoulias (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Screaming Trees, Primal Scream). The recording sessions used minimal studio techniques, overdubs or technology. This stripped back, raw approach to committing Kelly Jones’ songwriting to tape provides listeners with captivating and candid snapshots of one of the UK’s most enduring bands. The performances are led by Jones’ distinct and emotive vocals that reveal a raw vulnerability not yet heard.
