Rich Brian premieres short film shot in Indonesia, confirms North American tour

“We can’t stress enough the importance of someone like Brian in the world of music,” says Lee. “With this album, Brian has created a home for himself in the space between his roots and his dreams. In doing so, these words have created a home for so many others. So when Sylvia Zakhary (Mamag Studios Founder) and I were asked to collaborate with Brian and 88rising on this short film, I wanted to write something that explored this very idea of home. His words reminded me of my own. As immigrants, the spaces we call our home is questioned and defined by others. However, home is in the heart and mind. Home exists wherever there is love. Love for every experience that makes you who you are. That’s the poem in this film.”

The recording features field recordings of conversations he had with fellow Muslims about sexuality and religion that find their way into the bridge and outro of the track.” Nusrat on the Beach EP is out this Friday, August 2nd – keep an eye out for upcoming dates supporting the EP, along with a music video for the title track/lead single.

Video: Bobby J From Rockaway – Hook Drop ft. Lil Fame of M.O.P

“Summer Classics” is the debut album from Queens, NYC native Bobby J From Rockaway. Boasting production from Hip-Hop veterans like Kwame, Statik Selektah, Sway in the Morning’s DJ Wonder, and Jake One and features from lyrical heavyweights like Lil’ Fame and Killah Priest, the album is not only an homage to his hometown of Rockaway Beach but also classic Hip-Hop. The title is inspired by the “Summer Classic” basketball league that has been a staple of his community for generations. Something you can play from top to bottom while driving with the top down – Summer Classics.”

Nate Mercereau debuts “Righteous Energy” video today

“Righteous Energy is the feeling you get with someone when your collective synapses are firing and you reach a moment of transcendence together,” says Mercereau. “It’s conversational, rhythmic, synergistic. Righteous Energy is the light sizzle of synchronicity. I collaborated with the incredible Maria Constanza Ferreira on this video that reflects this feeling. The idea with all the visuals for ‘Joy Techniques’ is to allow the director to create their own interpretation of what it means to create and find joy. For Maria, it was the story of light illuminating and reflecting through a day in New York City.”

DEMONS (Project of Longtime Mae Guitarist Zach Gehring) Releases Timely New Charity Single “Uglier Americans”

Of the politically-charged track, frontman Zach Gehring says, “The separation of families at the border, and the policies that underscore recent activities targeting families from Mexico, Central, and South America, and US citizens are completely backwards and unquestionably cruel. Immigration policies and the inhumane treatment of people of all ages demands a response – any action that can help thwart or slow down what is happening. This song is was motivated by an attempt to critique the gap between immediacy and reflection – the immediacy and urgency for those threatened by these policies versus the reflective and abstract media commentary and discourse that privileged people (like us) engage in and respond to earnestly. There is no shortage of obstacles and cynicism that can undermine good intentions, but anything we can do – even the smallest act – is a positive step forward.

Shredders (P.O.S./Doomtree) Announce New LP, Share New Track

Shredders is the new indie rap project from Doomtree members P.O.S, Sims, Lazerbeak, and Paper Tiger. The supergroup formed after a Doomtree crew hiatus in 2016, allowing each member to focus more in-depth on personal projects. With solo albums already completed, the quartet sequestered themselves in various Midwestern cabins and Air BnBs over a six-month period to experiment with more uptempo and aggressive material. The result was Shredders’ monstrous debut album Dangerous Jumps, released on Doomtree Records in late 2017, which burst with carefree energy and booming bass. P.O.S and Sims consistently one-upped each other with dizzying wordplay and anthemic hooks over an unrelenting soundtrack scored by veteran producers Lazerbeak and Paper Tiger. The new sound was critically acclaimed and warmly received, and the group notched high-profile placements on everything from HBO hit series Ballers and ABC’s The Rookie to major video game soundtracks such as Far Cry, Tony Hawk, UFC, and Need For Speed. In 2018 Shredders hit the road hard, running circles around North America and rocking numerous festivals coast to coast. In the past two years they’ve shared the stage with a diverse range of legendary artists including Run The Jewels, Bone Thugs n’ Harmony, Bishop Briggs, Soulja Boy, and Getter.

“Ride The Wave is about letting go of the troubles caused by others, and more importantly your individual problems to realise that sometimes we need to step back and enjoy ourselves for 2 and a half minutes.” Says lead singer Ben Donaldson. “The song dynamically dips and dives, exploding into the chorus, whilst also stepping back for fuzzy modulated solos and washed over soundscapes.”
