“Rockstar” is about the band rolling with the punches and not giving up on their dreams (“We ain’t got no money, we’re just living free, I just wanna be a rockstar, baby”), and the video sees frontwoman Theresa Jarvis bring her arena-sized ambitions from her bedroom to the stage. The song was recently featured on the cover of Spotify’s Rock This playlist (4.4 mil followers), and has quickly become a fan favorite.
YONAKA have been building a pretty rapid following in their native UK where they were recently praised for crafting “shiny, armoured pop with metallic, QOTSA-style riffs, hip-hop rhythms and grimy UK attitude” (The Guardian). They just played their first two US shows ever in LA and NYC and will be announcing North American tour dates shortly. We all think they are gearing up to takeover in the US.
