Tasha The Amazon Reflects on Her Rise With the Twinkling “Not The Same” Single
Tasha The Amazon is a textbook iconoclast, blazing her own path through Canada’s music industry with undeniable talent and a fierce demeanor. Kicking back atop twinkling keys and rubbery bass, Tasha reflects on her climb to stardom on “Not The Same,” her new single. Produced by Arthur McArthur (Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa, Pusha T), “Not The Same” finds Tasha adapting her mantra-like melodies to the track’s summery vibe, thinking back to her couch-surfing past in Toronto and comparing it to her globe-trotting life as a boundary-pushing rapper. Though the production is less punishing than some of the warehouse-friendly tracks on her last album Die Every Day, Tasha doesn’t lose her sneering attitude, looking down her nose on those who lack the work ethic to overcome the odds she faced. “Not The Same” is the latest release from Black Moon, Tasha’s upcoming album, following the bohemian, NYLON-premiered video for “That Ain’t You.”
The Get Up Kids Share New Video For “Salina”
“Problems fits in perfectly with the band’s original run of records in the most worthwhile way possible. It’s outrageously hooky, emotionally blunt and honest, melodically quirky—and even a little bit sad sometimes. It’s the Get Up Kids in their pure form. And it’s an absolute blast.” – Magnet Magazine, ‘Essential New Music’

Meeting us with familiar themes of queerness, politics, and satire, GRLwood continues to solidify their name as the next big thing in punk. Look for their new album out August 2 on all platforms.

Insistent once more to reconvene that lineup, they successfully reunited N’Dea and The Heavies for his production of this track for their 30th anniversary album. Listen to it HERE.

Jesca Hoop latest music video for her new single, “Outside of Eden
Elia Petridis, director and owner of Los Angeles production company Filmatics, and Jesca Hoop, an American musician and songwriter based in the UK, combined their artistic talents to create stunning visual stories to bring life to the songwriter’s musical perspective. The two artists have worked on five uniquely collaborative music videos together, each with its own aesthetic and cinematic style, expertly produced to match the emotional arch of the track itself. Their first collaboration, “The Kingdom,” is a tribal fever dream in which Petridis envisioned, and brought to life, the many alter egos within Hoop’s melodic story. Birthed in a dream-like state, it’s meant to capture a mirror image of how Petridis felt when she first heard Hoops music. “City Bird” explores the life of the homeless in downtown Los Angeles, where Jesca had begun her music career. With the use of visual effects like stop motion and claymation-esque props, it follows the story of a homeless boy, desolate and wandering the city streets, before eventually settling into an empty, ghost-ridden home.

Kira Metcalf unveils new video for “Lily” w/ interview in GroundSounds
The video premiered along with an interview in GroundSounds where Metcalf detailed, “I wrote ‘Lily’ at the beginning of a new relationship. At the time I thought in order to be lovable I would have to be perfect, which to me meant careful, soft, agreeable, and delicate. I was so afraid of my own feelings that measuring and stifling myself felt like the only way I could be accepted or loved. ‘Lily’ is a song about the encroaching fear of being alone, about losing what you’ve always wanted. That is something I really wanted to come across in the video, something I think director Dior Rodriguez expertly captures. The video itself is very dreamy and soft while also exposing those fears and the jarring and unexpected loneliness that can creep up on you while falling in love.”

Joe from the band shared with be about the track “One of our favorite studios is Dockside Studio in Maurice LA. Theres a tv above the console and we always put up some crazy old movie while we are working. I remember Jory our bass player put up Barbarella starring Jane Fonda. Its a really wild film visually and when we got out of the session, I came home and wanted to try out my little 4 track cassette recorder. I had a fuzzy guitar sound and just played 2 notes in a fast strumming pattern. When I went to come up with lyrics – Barbarella was everything that came to mind.”
