WHY? announces new visual album, shares second movement

WHY?, the creative moniker for consummate wordsmith and beloved songwriter Yoni Wolf, is excited to announce AOKOHIO, a visual album to be released on August 9, 2019 via Joyful Noise Recordings. Today, WHY? is sharing the album’s second three-song movement and accompanying visual, “II. I’ve been carving my elbows, I might just take flight.,” which features focus track “Stained Glass Slipper.” The album’s entire visual element stars Emmy-winning actress Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) and was directed by Sundance Dramatic Special Jury Award-winner Miles Joris-Peyrafitte.

Kelsey Lu premieres “Foreign Car” video directed by Vincent Haycock

Additionally, Dropbox helped in the creation of two short films to document the making of “Foreign Car.” The films give fans an inside look into the creation process through behind-the-scenes footage and candid interviews with Lu and the team of costume designers, choreographers and fellow artists and producers. The first film will be available for viewing beginning June 19 at 10am ET at dropbox.com/kelsey-lu while the second will be posted on June 26 at 10am ET.

New Music // Chris Jamison (NBC’s “The Voice”)

Transitioning from being a sophomore in college to a famous singer and back to normalcy, however, wasn’t a simple transition. Though Jamison was a performer and musical theatre student from a young age, his experience was in singing the music of other artists. In other words, songwriting was still new to him, and he hadn’t yet found his voice.

Jack Barksdale (Americana, folk, blues) set to release new album, “Live from Niles City,” in June

Forth Worth, TX-based Americana and blues music artist Jack Barksdale has announced the upcoming release of his first album, Jack Barksdale: Live From Niles City. The 11-year-old singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist plans to release the LP on June 28, 2019.

The upcoming album features an intimate, live set recorded with more than fifty fans in attendance at the iconic Niles City Sound in Fort Worth. It consists of seven original songs penned by Jack, and two covers – a slide guitar version of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues” and a harmonica-fueled “White Freight Liner Blues” by Townes Van Zandt.

NEWS: EIlen Jewell’s eighth album, ‘Gypsy,’

American Songwriter describes Eilen Jewell as “one of America’s most intriguing, creative and idiosyncratic voices.” That singular voice springs forth from a woman of more than one mind, and she taps into many of them on Gypsy, due out August 16, 2019 on Signature Sounds.

By turns personal and political, pissed off and blissed out, Jewell’s first album of original material since 2015 expands brief moments of joy into lifetimes, and distills epic sentiments and persistent doubts into succinct songs. Yet rather than pulling artist and listener this way and that, the tensions within and between these 12 tracks propel her eighth studio album forward as a remarkably cohesive full-length.

Their second LP, Undercurrent showcases the band’s hybrid of ultra-heavy doom sludge/powerviolence as audible torture. With a more technical and precise attack, and a brighter and sharper tone than the preceding Hatred LP, all tracking, mixing, and mastering duties for Undercurrent were handled in Tokyo throughout 2018. The resulting album strikes hard with ten relentless tracks delivered in just over twenty-two minutes.

The immersive visuals are shot entirely within the confines of a photo booth, with decks and strobe lights signifying a serious party atmosphere. “After a crazy night out in Shoreditch with just the three of us… we noticed that people’s real characters come out when they go inside a photo booth,” the boys explain. “It was time to bring all that energy/wildness into four frames on the big screen. ‘No Ties’ is the perfect party tune to bring out that vibe in people, so it just felt like the right concept for this track!”

Victory! Canada Makes Dolphin and Whale Captivity Illegal

In Defense of Animals applauds Canada’s passing of Bill S-203, the Ending the Captivity of Whales and Dolphins Act, which passed through the House of Commons in Ottawa, Canada on Monday, June 10, 2019.

First introduced by Senator Wilfrid Moore in 2015, the legislation will officially make it illegal to hold any cetacean in captivity, for reasons other than rehabilitation and scientific research. Breeding or trading reproductive materials of whales and dolphins will also be prohibited. Any breach of this ban carries fines of up to $200,000.

IMANI COPPOLA Evokes the Life of Basquiat for “SAMO” Video — Out TODAY

It’s this sentiment that inspired Coppola to evoke the influential neo-expressionist and graffiti artist, Jean-Michel Basquiat, in her new video for “SAMO”, out today. The video hints at the presence of Basquiat himself, and features Coppola’s own artistic work while using graffiti art to comment on the tribulations of struggling artists. The graffiti displayed describes “benefits” to the artist lifestyle including “Depression,” “Unstable Income,” and culminates in the cosmic declaration, “It doesn’t ever end. It has very few rewards.
