Sara Lew releases artful new single ‘Same Old People’

PA post-rock quartet Heron announce widescreen ‘Sun Release’ LP

Heron is a four-piece musical collaborative from the heart of the Pennsylvania Wilds. Comprised of two guitars, bass, and drums, their bottomless sound is undeniably innovative, compelling, and cinematic. Sun Release, their second full length album set for a July 19th release, sees members Ben Blick (guitar), Boyd Lewis (guitar), Eric Morelli (bass), and Nate Blick (drums) crafting a seamless musical narrative. With the instrumental ballads of their 2017 debut now a distant memory, they’ve clawed their way into new surroundings that are at once dark and visceral, broad and beautiful.

Sacred Paws announce UK and North American tours, share sprightly new song “How Far”

“A slow one” isn’t really Sacred Paws’ MO, but there is, in fact, a slow one on Run Around the Sun (out May 31 in North America on Merge / rest of world on Rock Action). “How Far” was born of a riff guitarist Rachel Aggs had been noodling about with for some time, and a desire to try their hand at writing something a bit different. Nestled in the middle of the album, it’s a slightly twinkly, stripped-back meditation that inspires more of a sway than a pogo. Rachel wrote the bones of it alone at home (“A really nice, calm way to write songs!”) and brought it to a studio session to be built on. “It was sort of the first song we’ve done in a while that was carefully done, in that way.”

DOOMSQUAD Share New Track “Let It Go”

Of new track “Let It Go” the band elaborate: “The song is kind of an inner debate between two opposing voices of a conflicted self-conscience over how to cope through these chaotic times. One side balances a process of disengagement, of “letting go” of anger, resentment and fear by detaching oneself from the news cycle, and social media and journeying towards inner peace in a more spiritual way. The other side argues for staying socially and politically engaged, staying tuned in and turned on and leaning into the fiery activist energy and fighting this noble fight. Can both sides co-exist? Can you find a balance? What’s healthier? What’s fair? These are the questions this song tries to grapple with.”

Dylan LeBlanc’s “Born Again” premieres at Brooklyn Vegan

Of the song, LeBlanc comments, “This song came after days of feeling blocked and unable to think of anything to write about and I had the TV on in the background when I heard the words ‘born again.’ And even though that term is tied to religious meaning, I thought it was interesting and thought about my own experience of wanting to be different, tired of pain and how sometimes life literally beats you into a state of submission. It literally beats you down until you’re ‘born again,’ until some sort of accordance with the universe takes place, but how everything in your past leads you up to that point. It may happen several times in a person’s life, so I tried to pack all that in as few words as possible, which resulted in this song.”
