Skip Marley, the Island Records reggae prodigy for a new generation, gets a head-start on 4/20 tomorrow, with the release of his new song “That’s Not True” featuring Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley (his uncle, and youngest son of Rasta icon Bob Marley, Skip’s grandfather). “That’s Not True,” is Skip’s first original music release since 2017 and arrives timely the day before 4/20, when he will perform at Kaya Fest in Miami. The new release kicks off a promising new year of amazing music for Skip, starting with a collaboration with Major Lazer due for release next week.

Today the very deliberate debut solo album from Tim Baker makes its way into the wider world. Forever Overhead (Arts & Crafts) is a blend of piano ballads with ebullient folk-rock tracks. Although the record is brushed with the qualities of 70s singer-songwriters (think Jackson Browne and Randy Newman) Baker drew inspiration from his contemporaries like Feist, Leif Vollebekk, and The Barr Brothers. The resulting organic blend of pop grooves and folk-rock is straightforward with curious undertones that provides a timeless backdrop for Baker’s vibrant lyricism.
