“Paupière” contains both the French words for “skin” and for “stone”, organic and mineral, sensitive and hard. And it’s this singular duality that the young Montreal trio, consisting of Julia Daigle, Eliane Préfontaine and Pierre-Luc Begin, plays with on their fascinating new album, À jamais privé de réponses. The debut full-length follows an EP they released in 2016.

Erike Sparks wants to get out of East London – releases brilliant new track and video
Erike Sparks is an artist who has a truly focused vision of how he wants to communicate with his audiences. Having grown up in East London, his message to working class people of all races and ages is to be true to themselves and the genuine friends around them. This message of believing in yourself and those who stick by you through thick and thin, is reflected not only in his lyrics but only in his latest video to his track Infrared Beam. Shunning the obvious route, Erike has filmed his video in the wilds of Scotland, showing his single-mindedness and unwillingness to conform with the habits which drive many of his age to crime.

With vocal similarities to Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan, frontman/songwriter James Clifford deliberately employs rough production techniques to add a punk flavor to new wave-inspired songwriting. Personality Cult sounds like the direction New Order may have taken had they attended the sessions for Raw Power, or if The Smiths had abandoned guitars and got into Kraftwerk. Propulsive drum machines clash with abrasive guitar lines, while Clifford’s evocative baritone keeps everything balanced with lyrics that touch on uncertainty, isolation, youth, and finding hope in obscure places.
