Introducing Bishop Gunn – debut album Natchez out May 4!

Bishop Gunn recorded four songs for Natchez (named after the band’s hometown in Mississippi) during their 2017 Muscle Shoals Sound sessions with producer Mark Neill (The Black Keys). At MSSS, the band recorded simultaneous live tracking of guitars, drums, vocals, bass—something they’d never done before. The album will also feature a song tracked at Muscle Shoals’ FAME Studios as well as six songs cut at The Purple House, a Leiper’s Fork, TN home studio operated by Grammy-winning producer Casey Wasner.

Iconic Reggae Artist SNOW Releases the Official Music Video for “Informer 2018”

Darrin Kenneth O’Brien, the Canadian reggae artist known as SNOW, has debuted the official music video for his latest release, “Informer 2018”. The music video for the re-worked version of his chart-topping single from 1993 continues the 25th anniversary celebration of the release of Snow’s song “Informer”. The brand new version of Snow’s breakout reggae single is currently available on all digital music retailers and streaming platforms.

After their first full-length record was named “best post-punk debut LP of 2017” by Post-Punk.com, While the songs from this newest release retain the sheer power and intensity of the band’s previous two releases, Equals sees Second Still evolving their sound and progressing forward into sonically uncharted territory. The four main components of the band’s signature sound are still there –chorus and delay-heavy guitar, hypnotic bass grooves, heavyweight drum machine beats, and hauntingly beautiful vocal melodies– but they have added a couple analog synthesizers into the arsenal for Equals, mixing a whole new element into their already uniquely realized style of post-punk. Commanding synth bass, subtle ambient soundscapes, and forceful lead synth hooks now supplement and enhance the distinctive sound that Second Still had already crafted on their first two releases.

“I’ve seen a lot of friends come and go, and even move on to the next life,” the artist tells The Boot. “With not many options growing up in a small, conservative Southern town besides getting into trouble or go to church, I participated in both. There’s sort of an evil that lingers in the air like buzzards circling in the sky, and if you’re not careful, it’ll latch onto you like a leech.” Arkansas Dave decided to use the waters of the Ouachita River to tell that story. “Throughout the tall pines, fields of green grass and cypress trees growing in the bayous, swamps and along the banks of the muddy Ouachita, there is “Bad Water” everywhere,” he explains. “A metaphor for the culture of small, rural Southern towns, “Bad Water” reflects my life growing up in a town where death always seems imminent.”
