uuskhy’s newly released album ‘Drain the Maker’

“On the surface, ‘The Way She Was Watching Me’ is inspired by John Fowles’ ‘The Collector’ and the dual nature of its narration (themes of duality are present throughout Drain the Maker). The book first presents a story from the perspective of a butterfly collector who abducts an art student named Miranda, after which it becomes a first-person account via Miranda’s diary. Much of the lyrical content can be interpreted from both perspectives.

New Harry Permezel “Wax Man” Video – album out 5/4

Wax Man, the sophomore album from Melbourne, Australia native Harry Permezel, is an intimate reflection of a twenty-something’s formative era of self discovery. The ten tracks flutter from introspective observance to guided narration on the forming and failing of relationships, uncertainties of the future, suburban isolation, and a hopeful foresight. The warm production of the record allows these themes to become illuminated with haunting harmonies, head-bobbing hooks, clockwork percussion, sporadic flecks of synthesizer, and crooning ruminations.

Stream the debut album from Montreal’s Look Vibrant via Stereogum

The Up Here Place, the debut album from Montreal’s noise-pop quartet Look Vibrant, is a wonderpot of musical inventiveness and immediacy, boiling over with energy and steaming into bliss. After releasing two singles of pure noise music (Plateau and Sweater in the Lake), and an EP of polished indie pop (Only Qualms), on their debut album the band has perfectly combined these two elements into a product that is equally refined and unhinged. The songs teeter on the brink, threatening to fall apart at your feet, while somehow remaining intact by a logic that is uniquely Look Vibrant. Thematically, the album is an exploration of naive ambition, the constant need to reach ever growing heights, and the inevitable sharp drop that comes in its wake.

The album is an expansive and colorful passage through the forest we all forgot we grew up in. Rachel Caddy – ‘Reach For You’ Single

Victoria based singer-songwriter Rachel Caddy is set to release her newest single Reach For You, a powerful track written from the remnants of a break up and pieced together in a defiant but sensitive way.

Reach For You was self-penned by Rachel in 2016, when she started writing it as a means of “expressive therapy” before refining it to completion. The song has imagery wound throughout it, bitterly detailing the desperation of holding onto something that isn’t there: “take my soul…’cause I’ve been living fine without”. The song however is far from defeated, depicting a determination and intensity behind the brokenness. With an honesty that leaves no stone unturned the song is a moving, breath-taking track.

Kevin Krauter Announces Debut LP ‘Toss Up’ Out 6/15/18

‘Useful solitude’ is the phrase Krauter uses to describe Toss Up — both the conditions in which it was created and the prevailing theme of these nine iridescent indie-pop songs. In between tours, he spent long hours in his basement, guitars and vintage keyboards his only company, and tested out ideas, explored new sonic avenues, savored new sounds, and taught himself how to play a few instruments. The riffs and melodies became mantras, repeated back to himself until they became the rhythmically intricate, melodically bold, and emotionally complex songs on Toss Up. An insightful songwriter with a lyrical style that is both economical and evocative, Krauter crafts unique soundscapes that scramble a range of influences: ‘60s flower pop, ‘70s easy listening, ‘80s New Wave, ‘90s alt-radio, ’00s indie rock.

Joan of Arc Announce New Album ‘1984’

Ever since the band’s most recent lineup— Tim Kinsella, Theo Katsaounis, Melina Ausikaitis, Bobby Burg, and Jeremy Boyle— congealed and began playing shows locally in 2015, going on to record and release their most recent album, He’s Got The Whole This Land Is Your Land In His Hands, on the day Donald Trump was inaugurated, fans have witnessed an even more radical democracy at work. Your War (I’m One Of You): 20 Years of Joan of Arc, a full-length documentary from Vice’s Noisey (WATCH), was an initial window into the band’s generous collaborative spirit and the far-flung, improvised creation of that new LP. Live, old jams and new tracks have often melted and mutated, members jumping from instrument to instrument in between or in the middle of songs, all stasis discarded. And now, a series of nearly a cappella performances from Kinsella’s fellow vocalist Melina Ausikaitis, debuted live by Joan of Arc over the last several years, has become the backbone of their new LP, 1984.
