Diverse strains of jazz reign on “Sunlight” with Standring’s clean electric jazz guitar shining brightly throughout the ten tracker plus a reprise that closes the session. The prevailing sounds and engaging textures create warm, organic backdrops for his nimble fretwork forays that traverse lush rhythms and grooves. Wave after wave of Fender Rhodes keyboards and Hammond B3 organ wash over the taut beats serving as the rhythmic spine. Vintage elements offer a compelling contrast to the imaginative electronic nuances, deftly making the recordings feel retro, futuristic, experimental and visionary all at the same time while Standring’s cool-toned guitar slices through to the fore cranking out nifty licks, precision fills and impassioned melodic sojourns.

Concocting a goosebumps-inducing hybrid of hip-hop, jazz, soul, and electronic, Canadian artist ODIE is a game-changing talent. Strumming an acoustic guitar and inhabiting a cavernous sonic landscape, ODIE shows off his pipes on “Little Lies,” his latest single. Reaching skyward with his vocal hums and rippling electric guitar, ODIE tells a moving love song, encouraging an unnamed other to love a mystery woman with all his heart, perhaps a woman ODIE loved in the past: “Look up, look up, look up, the sky is falling/She’s falling/For you.” “Little Lies” is a devastatingly pretty and wildly ambitious track, switching gears in the middle of its runtime into a chopped-and-screwed version of the first verse. “Little Lies” will appear on Analogue, ODIE’s debut project, arriving this spring.

Her sphere of influence spans across multiple genres and contains soothing yet rich rhythms that bear similarity to Tracy Chapman and Marc E. Bassy. With lyrics that bring her story to life, Kareen uses clever wordplay and catchy melodies to take listeners on an intimate journey.

Regarding her new single, Kareen said, “Been in Love“ came at a time in my life where I wished I was somewhere else. I’ve always thought of love as an actual place two people are in instead of just an emotion, so the concept came easily and the song wrote itself in a way.”
