Ritual Productions initiates new signing, DRUG CULT
Ritual Productions expands its roster with the signing of Drug Cult, a four-piece occultist doom collective whose debut self-titled rite beckons to see light of day.
Formed at the edge of Mt. Jerusalem in the hills of Mullumbimby, Australia, Drug Cult is the alchemic workings of guitarist Vin Steele (ex. Wolfmother, Megaritual, Sun Of Man), vocalist Aasha Tozer, drummer Dale Walker (Megaritual, Sun Of Man) and bassist Maggie Schreiber.
Frontman Luke Lalonde explains the song’s genesis, “I found this old voice memo on my phone from 2015 called ‘I miss you so much baby.’ It was just the chorus of ‘Miss You’ with vocal and piano, very early ’60s vibe. I guess I just heard it on the right night when I had a guitar at hand and the rest of the song came very quickly.” Lalonde continues, “I think the narrator is a mix of pure ego and emotional suffering. He thinks the people walking by him on the sidewalk actually care about him, or are paying attention to him. This guy is sort of full of himself but he’s proud of his pain and his longing, he feels like it elevates him somehow and he wants to show it off.”
The band took an unconventional route, working with director Daniel Carberry (Skylar Grey, Jon Bellion, R3HAB) to capture the steadfast love of a grandfather for his granddaughter. The video evokes the innocence of early childhood giving way to the tumultuous coming-of-age years, coupling it with a metaphor on how personal relationships can also have an impact on our world.

The new video sees GIRLI take on her next door neighbour – the complete antithesis of the care free, vibrant, confident, pink popstar. Speaking about the new video GIRLI explains “This video is FUN VS LAME, PINK VS GREY, GIRLI VS MR 10PM BEDTIME. The conclusion is that light and colour and positivity and fun conquer darkness and dullness and negativity every time. I loved the idea of the split screen and being able to see both characters interacting and clashing with each other from either side of the wall, like in the video for Walk This Way by Run DMC & Aerosmith. Look out for me in a grey wig, flying tutus and some dodgy dance moves.”

NPR Music premiered the track’s accompanying music video, directed by Alex Cook and “shot beautifully in black and white.” The video follows two caretakers as they sacrificially tend to a small group of patients. Cook says, “The idea for the video was born from the track’s unnerving beat and deceptive undertones. The story takes place in an alternate, dystopian time in which people transfer their negative memories to one another through a mysterious machine.”
Brooklyn Vegan have shared Berry’s ‘Everything Compromised’ LP. Prior to the LP stream All Things Go premiered “Fragments” and The 405 premiered the single “Civil Disobedience”. ‘Everything Compromised’ will be getting a physical release on 1/12 via Joyful Noise Recordings.
