SUFJAN STEVENS SHARES “TONYA HARDING”

“I’ve been trying to write a Tonya Harding song since I first saw her skate at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in 1991. She’s a complicated subject for a song partly because the hard facts of her life are so strange, disputable, heroic, unprecedented, and indelibly American. She was one of the greatest figure skaters of her time, and the first American woman to perform a triple axle in an international competition. She was an unlikely skating star, having been raised working class in Portland, Oregon. Being a poor outsider, her rise to fame in the skating rink was seen, by some, as a blemish on a sport that favored sophistication and style. Tonya’s skating technique was feisty, fierce, and full of athleticism, and her flamboyant outfits were often hand-made by her mother (who was abusive and overbearing). (They couldn’t afford Vera Wang.) And then there was the Nancy Kerrigan incident. In January 1994, Tonya’s then-boyfriend Jeff Gillooly hired an assailant, Shane Stant, to break fellow figure skater Nancy Kerrigan’s leg at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships at Cobo Arena in Detroit, so that she would be unable to compete at the upcoming Winter Olympics. The after-math of the attack was recorded on camera and ultimately set off a media frenzy (and an FBI investigation). Gillooly and Stan were eventually found guilty, and Tonya pleaded guilty to hindering the prosecution, and was subsequently banned for life from the U.S. Figure Skating Association. Nancy Kerrigan recovered from her injury and won a silver medal at the Winter Olympics. Tonya Harding finished eighth.” by Sufjan Stevens

Joy remembered, self reflection and turmoil manifested in gestures that lie upon Robbie’s ungulating rhythms and vox set upon the backdrop of a familiar location – home for most of us that created this piece – the streets of Silver Lake, LA.”

The futuristic and hard-hitting track comes from JAKLYN’s 4-song EP Syrup: The Remixes, and reflects TRKRNR’s distinctive sound, blending electronic, R&B, and hip hop genres. Gyrefunk can be seen in the video playing his one-of-a-kind, homemade multi-instrument — an electric bass, guitar, drum-machine and keyboard combined into one music-making machine.

Maggie Schneider Releases “Chuck Bass” off ‘Tinted Glasses’ EP

Last month, the bright-eyed and bubbly new artist, Maggie Schneider, announced her brand new EP, entitled Tinted Glasses due out January 12, 2018. With a culmination of fresh, honest, and open-hearted lyrics, Schneider writes her songs about her love of life and optimistic point of view. The 4-track EP, produced by Rian Dawson of All Time Low at Track Happy Studios, is about navigating life, relationships, growing up and delves into how her life has changed since her debut release, Insomniac. Off the forthcoming release comes “Chuck Bass” a feminist anthem that encourages women to stand up for their rights. Schneider continues, “it’s a sassy song about women valuing honesty and integrity in relationships, over wealth and status. It’s about how I can’t be bought. My song is a positive reminder of how much strength we have as women, and I think that this is an important topic to be expressed in music. It is up to us to celebrate each other and make a difference in the world without diminishing out male counterparts.” Inspirer coins Schneider as one of the “voices for a new generation of feminist badasses” and fans can view the brand new music video for “Chuck Bass” here!

Kyle Stallons Rolls Out New EP, “Heaven on Wheels”

Country singer-songwriter and accomplished pianist, Kyle Stallons just released his debut EP titled, Heaven on Wheels. It is a collection of songs that he wrote over the past few years and was produced by Kellen McGregor of American-Christian metalcore band, Memphis May Fire. The six-song release is available on Apple Music, Amazon Music, iHeart Radio, iTunes, Pandora, Spotify, and YouTube.

“One of my favorite places to listen to music is in my truck rolling down the highway. I think most people can relate to that. It’s where we finally find a moment to process our day, emotions and think about the people in our lives. It’s where we learned just about everything!” Stallons added, “I wanted to give people something to jam out and roll down the windows to. Time to drive and reminisce, and to laugh, cry and sing. This EP is for the young lovers, the old lovers and everyone in between.”
