Today we are fortunate enough to chat with The Royal Turns. This musical duo has a new EP and video out and so we have much to discuss. Join us today as we go – 5 Questions – with The Royal Turns.
SKOPE: Where are we talking from today and how is your day going?
I’m hanging out in the North Georgia Mountains, drinking a cup of coffee. So I can’t complain!
SKOPE: Your new EP & single are out now. How long have you been writing & recording?
The songs from this EP date back to 2015. I wrote them.
SKOPE: How did you 2 come together and create The Royal Turns?
Celeena and I met in college in 2012. We were both Music performance majors. We played together in the campus’ church band and got to know each other through that. I’d been wanting to start a band for a while, so back in 2016 when I was thinking of who I could call up to get on board, Celeena was one of the first people I thought of. Luckily she was up for it, so we’ve been playing ever since. It’s been great so far and we’re having a lot of fun.
SKOPE: Does it concern you that people can listen to all music free on Spotify and do you have Spotify?
There are still some kinks to work out with regard to royalties and proper compensation as related to Spotify and other streaming services….. but overall, I think the streaming revolution has been great for both consumers and creators. It’s certainly generating more revenue than illegal downloading – so for what it’s worth, it’s an improvement. I personally use Apple Music and I love it. I do miss the days of feeling like I owned a collection of my own personal favorite songs and albums, but having instant access to new music is life changing. From an artists standpoint, Spotify & the rest are making your music available to a huge audience – isn’t that what this is all about?
SKOPE: What is coming up for you & where you @ online?
We’re getting ready to book some shows around the Atlanta area, and hopefully get a small southeastern US tour going next summer. You can find us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube using @TheRoyalTurns, or check out our official website, www.theroyalturns.com.
