Jim Marshall’s Collection of Previously Unseen Peace Photographs on Display

San Francisco Art Exchange (SFAE) announces PEACE: Photographs by Jim Marshall, an exhibit featuring a selection of legendary photographer Jim Marshall’s unseen peace photographs. The exhibit opens October 20 at SF Art Exchange (458 Geary St, San Francisco, CA 94102) with a welcome reception from 6:30PM-8:00PM and is open to the public. Please call (415) 441-8840 to RSVP.

Marshall, one of the most celebrated photographers of the twentieth century, has taken some of the most recognized photographs in the history of music. Jim loved street photography, and in between official assignments in the 1960s, he documented the CND peace symbol and peace rallies as a personal project. Jim tabled these images on an index card in his archives scrawled with a peace symbol, where they had remained unseen and unpublished until now.

TWO-TIME GRAMMY AWARD WINNER JASON MRAZ JOINS THE COMPANY OF WAITRESS

The producers of the Broadway hit Waitress announced today that on Friday November 3, two-time Grammy Award winner Jason Mraz will join the company as Dr. Pomatter for a 10-week run.

Jason Mraz is making his Broadway debut in Waitress. A two-time Grammy Award winner (and six-time nominee), Jason has earned platinum or multi-platinum certifications for his recordings in more than 20 countries, sold 48 million singles, and made pop music history with his record-breaking song “I’m Yours.” Mr. Mraz has performed around the world, selling out venues such as The Hollywood Bowl, Madison Square Garden, and London’s O2 Arena. Jason will celebrate the 15th anniversary of his first album, Waiting For My Rocket To Come, this October. While his career began in coffeehouses in San Diego, he is equally at home in a pie shop on 47th Street.

May Erlewine readies “Mother Lion” due 11/3

One of the Midwest’s most beloved songwriters, May Erlewine’s soulful songwriting was the foundation for Mother Lion and was shepherded to life by producer Tyler Duncan (Ella Riot, Michelle Chamuel) and a close-knit cast of exceptional musicians: Vulfpeck’s Theo Katzman (drums), Joe Dart (bass) and Woody Goss (piano). There are also appearances from notable voices like Antwaun Stanley (Vulfpeck), Lindsay Lou Rilko (Lindsay Lou & The Flatbellies), and other friends and collaborators.

The album, her 10th studio release, is due November 1, 2017.

Coyote Run Premieres Single, “Love From Far Away”

Kasie Shahbaz (Coyote Run) is a multi-instrumentalist from Southern California who by middle school, obsessed with heavy prog rock, and by adult life spent all her nights roaming the hills listening to folk singers under full moonlight. Her music is some culmination of those experiences. Inspired mainly by religious experience in nature and in relationships, her music wanes between punk angst and psychedelic ecstasy. She currently resides in Los Angeles, Berlin, and New York where she hides from the city and records herself.

Camerata Mediolanense Debuts “Mi Vuoi“ Music Video

Camerata Mediolanense is an ensemble of Italian musicians who gained recognition in the Neofolk/Neoclassical scenes by blending darkwave and post-punk with the musical spirit of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The group was born in Milan in 1994, founded by harpsichordist / musicologist Elena Previdi. Camerata Mediolanense will release its new album, Le Vergini Folli (“The Foolish Virgins”), on October 27 via Prophecy Productions (Alcest, Amber Asylum).

NPR Music’s First Listen Premieres Becca Mancari’s Debut Album

On October 6, the Nashville-based singer and songwriter Becca Mancari will release her debut album Good Woman via Gold Tooth Records. The album is now available to stream via NPR Music’s First Listen series. NPR Music’s Ann Powers said, “Her voice, sometimes feminine and sometimes echoing beyond easy gender categories, is the voice of a quiet observer coming to realizations that matter. This album was recorded and mixed in my bedroom. It was inspired by a few relationships, living in Brooklyn with no money, and growing up in San Jose playing ska shows at a nickel arcade and a roller rink. After years getting a masters in classical composition, I wanted to create a sound contrary to the dense world of classical music. My sound is most inspired by ska and video game music combined with compositional techniques learned in school. Lyrically the songs are pretty autobiographical.

Acclaimed Songwriting Podcast And The Writer Is… Returns

The team of the hit podcast series And The Writer Is… hosted their Season 2 kickoff party last night at the iconic Sound City Studio in Van Nuys before hundreds of songwriters and music industry executives.

The evening was highlighted by the show’s host Ross Golan and co-producer Joe London announcing the lineup of the new season — which launched earlier that day with Golan’s interview with Jack Antonoff, who recently penned hits for Taylor Swift, Lorde, St. Vincent and his own band Bleachers. The duo was then presented gold plaques in commemoration of the podcast’s first season exceeding 500,000 downloads.

Now, Sam Rochford has announced an ambitious new campaign for the month of October. During “Inktober,” Sam will write a new song and post a new Youtube video, every day.

“I’m going to try to write a song every single day, and make a video every single day, in October,” says Sam. “Some of the videos are going to be the songs, some of the videos are just going to be me talking about songwriting and things I’ve learned.
