Conceived in a Seattle treatment center by former pastor, Pedro Garcia, Revlover was at first a musical light at the end of a pitch-black tunnel. Its materialization began when the Miami native returned to his hometown and stumbled upon Megan Morrison. Pedro came across one of her music videos as the lead singer of Dorothy’s Surrender and invited her to sing on two of the songs. That’s when Revlover was born.
Vocalist Matt Young notes the lyrics, “bellow at people desperate for stardom and the lengths they’ll go to be recognized. The whole culture of TV, X-Factor, American Idol bullshit has had a big hand in the way the music industry is run these days, and it has seeped right into the metal world. This song is a big fuck you to that whole ideology that needs to be dead and buried.”
Rotoscope ‘Clean Lines’
At the heart of Rotoscope is Charlottesville-based musician John Athayde. The title track, “Clean Lines” started as an instrumental concept to merge electronica and rock. Piano and orchestral scoring was replaced over time with more beeps, clicks, whirs and guitar samples to give it a more industrial feel consistent with the technological disconnect behind the EP. Much of the inspiration came from the quiet iridescent streetlights as Athayde would drive around DC in the middle of the night. Read more here.
