Sometimes, to become successful and get closer to the person we can become, we don’t need to add more things – we need to give up on some of them.

There are certain things that are universal, which will make you successful if you give up on them, even though each one of us could have a different definition of success. You can give up on some of them today, while it might take a bit longer to give up on others

LiftMaster Presents Battle of the Garage Bands

The search is on! LiftMaster, the leader in Garage Door Openers, is searching for the best unsigned band in North America to get them out of the garage and onto the stage.

The garage is where the harsh dissonance pouring from a used guitar is transformed into sweet melodies. Where self-conscious vocalists strut and pose for imaginary crowds. Where drummers find enough solace to bang away until the wee hours just so they’ll never miss a beat. At least until the neighbors complain. Whether you call it hard country, rhythm ‘n blues, rap, hip-hop, or rock ‘n’ roll, there’s one certainty; it started in a garage.

Created by musicians for musicians, LiftMaster Presents Battle of the Garage Bands is going to give bands a shot at the national spotlight and all that comes with it.

Flamingods challenge prejudice with new track ‘Mixed Blessings’

Flamingods’ art is rooted in a love for the spaces between cultures. They’re cross-cultural magpies, absorbing styles and instruments from the world over into their mesmerising sound. Latest single Mixed Blessings from their new Kewali EP is an atavistic trip through classic psych territory with all the bells and whistles of clever contemporary production.

Accompanying the single is an animated video by Alpaca Animations. It’s a rich dreamscape of primitive artwork that feels like an animated cave painting or the reverie of a brain-fried DMT tripper. In creative protest against the xenophobia which abounds in international politics right now, the video centres around an intrepid explorer on a quest for enlightenment. The narrative takes a nightmarish turn when he encounters strange and terrible looking beasts. When they throw a big party for him, he realises the illusory nature of his judgements. They’re not so bad after all.

Daniel Davidson returns with a new album

The kind of music you hear on Crows is the kind of music best made by someone with a touch of gray in the temples. In the way it mixes smart, atmospheric, and vaguely Americana-ish sounds, it might remind you of Jim White, Destroyer, Sparklehorse, or even Bobby Charles. It is sophisticated without being diluted. “Love should be fair and love should share, but it don’t share equally/ What’s yours is mine and you should know, no one feeds my crows but me,” Davidson sings on “My Crows.” This is a major singer-songwriter, but one who remains relatively unknown outside of his native Detroit.
