Freshly off their month-long European tour with Fred and Toody, we have the first single from Top Down’s debut LP, Rough Roads, premiered yesterday on Music & Riots Magazine. As guitarist and vocalist szim told Music & Riots Magazine ‘”The Tunnel’ is about trying to reach out for somebody you have a strong bond with. But while doing so, both of you recognize your approach is doomed to fail cause circumstances, fate and time are working against you. Just like other songs ‘The Tunnel’ describes some kind of a feeling, a mood or a situation I find myself in.”
“The Edmonton songwriter keeps getting better and better. … proof that his omnivorous interests, which span from punk to soft rock, are ripening into something lush and satisfying.” — The FADER
Today, NATHANIEL SHANNON AND THE VANISHING TWIN, in cooperation with Decibel Magazine, unveils the eerie new video for “Trespasses.” The tune comes by way of the record of the same name, released late last year via Aqualamb.
Notes Decibel of the clip, “SHANNON’s spoken word-style vocals over haunting and minimalist instrumentals lends a creepy atmosphere to the record. Shannon ups the creepiness with a new video for ‘Trespasses,’ which shows SHANNON’s ghostly face appearing over shots in a graveyard, against a brick wall and the bathroom floor. It’s not as gory as the blood-soaked video for ‘Debutantes,’ but it adds another unsettling piece to his macabre collection.

It’s guaranteed to start a debate anywhere you go, so I’ll just say that MY favorite rapper, line for line, bar for bar, was Biggie, The Notorious BIG. Once I realized that we were 20 years to the day that he was tragically murdered, I got to work, with my favorite producers, DJ DN3 and Fresh Kils, and re-worked several of my favorite Biggie songs into new jams. Enjoy it now.

Altar Eagles – “What Are You Coming To?”
“‘What Are You Coming To?’ is a song about hindsight. Basically about looking back on a relationship and trying to own up to your own mistakes while realizing you don’t even recognize the person that you thought you knew so well. Kinda like that line about listening when people tell you who they are, but in this case you didn’t. All past tense.”

So I wanted to do a song that musically felt like I was driving through paradise — the sun setting, the pink skies, the palm trees over the ocean, the city in the distance — but, lyrically, I wanted it to be about the dark side, the lonely side, and the deceiving side of the city; everyday being the same old shit.”

Darlia return with new single ‘Ballad of Black & White’
Darlia make a triumphant return with new single, ‘Ballad of Black & White’ out March 10th on Ignition Records.
It’s been a long two years for Nathan Day and Darlia. After a string of heart-bursting singles and bruised rock brilliance they released ‘mini-album’ ‘Petals’, a swirling melee of ’90s grunge, rampant melodicism and high-voltage noise… but although it felt like a summation of kinds, the glorious crown that capped off a spell of acclaimed releases and live-wire performances it was far from the end game. ‘Petals’ was a prologue.

Alt-pop band Hey Violet release a new single – “Break My Heart” – today via all digital service providers-LISTEN HERE. Calling the track a “twisted love song,” lead singer Rena Lovelis says that “Break My Heart” was inspired by over-romanticizing the painful part of a break-up. “It’s about how, in a relationship, you go through these phases – the first date, the first kiss, the honeymoon – and then after you’ve experienced all the amazing parts of that love, you want to go to the dark side. You want this person to break your heart so you can feel what it’s like to long for them and to feel so desperate that you’ll do anything to get them back. So it’s kind of masochistic!”

As an album, II belongs to no specific subgenre, and as a band Crooked Bangs belongs to no specific movement, revivalist or contemporary. Edmondson’s music is music of a certain set of physical places—public plazas, flat highways, flashes of kudzu and palmettos. These places, however, are always depicted in flux: they are being walked through, driven on, viewed in flashes and blurs. The album is about these and other kinds of changes, especially those that prompt reflection upon childhood memories and grappling with whether your experiences were as good (or bad) at the time as you think they are now.

Of the track The Accidentals say: “‘KW’ was written when we were touring this summer with Keller Williams. We were blown away by his cross-genre, highly collaborative guitar wizardry, and challenged ourselves to write something in that jazz infused jam-band style. We kept referring to the song as ‘KW,’ and it stuck. Keller heard the tune, and offered to swap us some string parts on his new album for his signature guitar chops on ours – and KW was born.Keller is an authentic human. He has made a living doing what he loves while being who he is – and we really respect that. It’s more rewarding to live your life authentically rather than for self-gain.”

The song delivers new meaning to the popular phrase ‘Godspeed,’ and as GAWVI tells it, “meaning to ‘level up’ and ‘God be with you’.” Packed with pounding drums, synths, and intricately layered instrumentation, the track reaffirms GAWVI as a musical hybrid with the chops to communicate an array of emotions through sound. To excite fans, GAWVI added Andy Mineo and KB to the stadium-sized beat “to ‘level up’ the song even more.” “God Speed” follows the release of “Closer,” the undeniably fun and reverent first single from We Belong, which impacted Hot AC/CHR radio as the ‘most-added’ record this week debuting at #24 on the chart.

Becca Stevens has released the stunning video for ‘Well Loved’, a standout track from her new album Regina (out March 24th on GroundUP Music) which features Laura Mvula. ‘Well Loved’ was inspired by The Pillow Book by Sei Shonagon, and the video – which features Stevens dancing amid broken glass that reforms at the very end – represents an understanding that in order to be loved by others we must first love ourselves.

Driven by its malleability, its ability to be foundationally identical, yet aesthetically and sonically utterly new, Mercer continued experimenting with each subsequent track until he had two complete albums: one original and one “flipped”.

With heartfelt words like “I’m sure you think I’ve outgrown you but I couldn’t,” ‘Malibu 1992’ is a ballad about a long lost romance and the feelings that these experiences bring.
“Four years ago, we recorded this song by ourselves. At 4AM, under flickering fluorescent light, we carelessly wrote. Then, we put it on the shelf,” vocalist, Chase Lawrence told Baeble. “It’s strange how you can’t tell how special something is until you revisit it. Maybe it’s nostalgia, maybe it’s delusion. I’ve physically changed, but I think my 20 year old self had ‘me’ more figured out than I do even now. We put this song away for a later time. I guess it’s now. ‘Malibu 1992.'”
