This past summer, her hype song “Say” was heard across a slew of radio stations including Sirius XM Hits 1, Venus, iHeart Radio and Radio Disney, where it was well-received by listeners and music critics alike. Influenced by a range of pop revolutionaries, including Madonna, Gwen Stefani, and Rihanna, Symon’s music does not have one singular lane, but rather evolves with each story she tells in her songs. Combining a bit of pop, R&B, and house, Symon is here to break the boundaries and push the limits of self-expression, bringing a fresh, raw, and honest perspective back to the airwaves.

Thieves Like Us New Album + Video

After a four-year hiatus, Thieves Like Us return with their fifth eponymously titled record. The Swedish/American band, named after a New Order song, tracked and produced the new record in late 2015. The new self-titled record reinvents the band’s cosmic song based aesthetic with the introduction of live bass (Thomas Franklin) and drums (Tore Knipping), steering its songs into more spirited waters.

Guitarist Chris Wackrow and his Felt-like guitar overdubs delicately fill out the rhythmic spaces with many a subtle and sparkling riff. Backing singers Martine Duverglas, Mia Von Matt, and Monika Martinez substantiate Andy Grier’s frail and airy vocals elevating the music to a more adult modern rock sound similar to the complimentary vocals of Metronomy. The end result is an intricate, accessible pop record and a natural progression of the band’s previous record Bleed Bleed Bleed.

Tom And His Computer – Eighty Four – New Music Video

“When tracking the history of modern dance music, all roads lead to disco,” says Billboard Magazine. “It was a beautiful era of live instrumentation that continues to inspire generations of dance floor freaks. It’s no wonder Savoy, a trio of musicians who deliver the feel of modern electronic-dance music with its own live analog performances, finds itself firmly rooted in that disco tradition. Those roots show strong on Savoy’s latest single, a steady, feel-good, chilled-out tune called ‘Living Color.’”

Allman Brown (London) shares new single “Sweetest Thing”

Inspired by fellow ever-changing troubadours like Ryan Adams and Sufjan Stevens and groups like Bombay Bicycle Club and Bon Iver, Brown is never afraid to try new things and incorporate different styles into his music, and his debut album is indicative of this approach. Songs like “Palms” and “Ancient Light” represent a sojourn into the world of soft and subtle electronica, while never losing the emotional punch of the folk-influenced works that set out his stall.

1000 Years was cut with longtime friend and producer Ian Barter (Paloma Faith, Izzy Bizzu). The ten-song record represents an artist exploring his past, present and future with an ever expanding set of musical tools anchored by a beautiful, rich and distinctive voice.

The act consisting of Mik Davis and Steve Maloney mesh together a seductively hypnotic world of synth grooves, twisted guitar sounds, electronic beats and melodic vocal hooks. The chemistry between the creators has propelled They Called Him Zone on to radio airwaves across the globe and secured respect from underground media and fans alike.

Philadelphia producer Moon Bounce announces new album ‘Clean House’ with outrageous ‘Drugs’

Moon Bounce is Philadelphia’s mutant pop pioneer, Corey Regensburg. Walking the fine line between creation and disintegration, his output combines soulful vocals, bombastic percussion and explosive synthesis; obsessed with groove, yet on the verge of falling apart.

Regensburg’s unconventional background spans about every performance style and genre imaginable. Classically trained in piano and a graduate of University of the Arts with a major in musical theatre, he quickly ended up disillusioned from the creative limits that were imposed on him in school. Using a friend’s pirated copy of Propellerhead’s Reason, a piece of software with a significant learning curve, Regensburg started creating samples and synthesizers completely from scratch. Inspired by early M83, bands like The Dillinger Escape Plan and The Blood Brothers, and sound design progenitors such as Chris Clark and Aphex Twin, the Moon Bounce project soon had lift off.

Five time GRAMMY-winner Marty Stuart will release Way Out West, his 18th studio album, on March 10 on Superlatone, and it will be available on CD, vinyl, and digitally here. The album was conceived as a love letter by one of Country music’s living legends, who has played with everyone from Cash to Lester Flatt, to the lonely but magical American West, specifically the promised land of California. “If you go and sit by yourself in the middle of the Mojave Desert at sundown and you’re still the same person the next morning when the sun comes up, I’d be greatly surprised,” says Stuart. “It is that spirit world of the West that enchants me.”

DOCTOR CYCLOPS return with new LP “Local Dogs” on Heavy Psych Sounds!

Northern Italy’s cold woods are set to unleash their fieriest beast, with ’70s power trio DOCTOR CYCLOPS returning with their blistering third album “Local Dogs” this March on Heavy Psych Sounds.

DOCTOR CYCLOPS haven’t stood idle since their latest album “Oscuropasso” (World In Sound 2014), slowly but surely rustling up their heaviest and most accomplished project to date. This new full-length entitled “Local Dogs” delivers an explosive blend of ’70s heavy rock, NWOBHM and doomier Sabbath-style riffage, ready to take you back to a different era. Groovy riffs and gloomy paths coming straight from the woods feel like the epic saga of the ’70s is truly likely to continue its course. In this context, the appearance of Bill Steer (Carcass, Firebird, Gentlemans Pistols) on lead guitar tastes like the icing on top of a tempting cake.

Her Harbour ‘Chime and Knell’

“Chime and Knell” is about the juxtaposition of life and death in the spring. I began writing it in the last stretches of the winter, when the snow was first melting and the dormant land was beginning to thaw. In a season that had always seemed abundant with life, I felt haunted by death; I saw it in the landscape and everything that surrounded me. I ultimately found peace in understanding the importance of loss to life renewing itself and hoped to convey that sentiment with “Chime and Knell”.

Track Premiere: Her Harbour – “Chime & Knell”

Video: BLESSED – “Insanity”

Cultivating a hybrid of pop, R&B, and electronic, the Australian artist BLESSED heralds a promising new direction for rhythmic music. The latest single from the Sydney native, “Insanity” is a sweeping epic of a song, with BLESSED riding a percussive, Kid Cudi-type delivery over massive African-style drums, plaintive piano chords, haunting vocal samples, and a climactic bass drop. Today, Pigeons & Planes premieres a visual that lives up to the far-reaching scope of the track. The visual for “Insanity” follows a troubled youth with bleach-blonde hair, who struggles to control his emotions in his pursuit of his love interest. The story takes dramatic twists and turns, from moments of tenderness to moments of violence, but begins and ends with mirror images. Directed by Julian Machuca, the video is a perfect complement to the song’s themes of intense emotional connection and loss.

Kelly Lee Owens “Anxi” ft. Jenny Hval here

Kelly Lee Owens announces her self-titled debut album, due March 24th via Smalltown Supersound, and shares lead single, “Anxi” ft. Jenny Hval. It follows the release of her “Oleic” EP, released this past fall. An album that bridges the gaps between cavernous techno, spectral pop, and Krautrock’s mechanical pulse, Kelly Lee Owens brims with exploratory wonder, establishing a personal aesthetic that is as beguiling as it is thrillingly familiar.

Before starting work on the self-produced album, Owens, a 28-year old Londoner, turned her keen ear towards dance music after working in a record store with techno producer Daniel Avery. Her voice and contributions can be heard on Avery’s Drone Logic. Since then, she self-released two white label 12″s, with the “Oleic” EP to follow.

Mass Appeal quoted on Dodgr’s vocals saying, “When you think of some of the greats in hip hop – Biggie, Tupac, Nas, Hov, Slick Rick – aside from their lyrics, flows, and other points on the checklist of a great emcee, each had a recognizable voice…Having a unique sound is the least of The Last Artful, Dodgr’s worries.”

Justin Carter blends taut synths & tense beats + lyrical stylings on “Leaves” premiering via THUMP

A delicate collection of songs for losing yourself, a meditation on spiritual struggle, a window into the parallel reality of Justin Carter: The Leaves Fall is all of those things – and probably more. Centered on his intimate vocals, pointed with hints of Arthur Russell and John Martyn, the eight tracks are buttressed by warm acoustic guitars, vibraphones, and organs and flourished with modern production. D.A. Stern Shares Albert Brooks Inspired “Miami” Video

D.A. Stern shares his first video from Aloha Hola in the form of this Albert Brooks inspired gem ahead of the records release via Two Syllables on January 27. In D.A. Stern’s own words…

“I am a huge Albert Brooks fan and Real Life might be my favorite of his movies. It’s basically about a filmmaker, played by Brooks, who plans to make a feature out of footage he shoots of a real American family during their day-to-day lives; naturally, everything goes wrong. The hilarious and beautiful montage that occurs during one of the family’s happier spells depicts a typical all-American family living an all-American dream in slow-motion, yet we are aware that this is not the truth. Beneath all of the smiles, ice cream cones, and board games, this family is being pushed to their limits by a selfish man with a vision. The idea that not everything is as it seems and that things are different below the surface ties directly into what the song Miami is about.”

BuzzBands.LA premieres “neon karate kid” Eli Raybon

“Eli Raybon is only 19 years old but he has already 1) escaped his stifling, small-town upbringing, 2) double-majored in computer science and mathematics at a New York university, 3) chucked those studies to move to Los Angeles, and 4) reinvented himself musically. No wonder the dude dresses like a neon version of the Karate Kid. It was only last March that Raybon released his debut full-length, “The Machine & My Dilemma,” but upon his arrival in L.A. last fall, the muse struck and he wrote songs for his forthcoming EP, “Green.” Included was the fizzy, bouncy “Unsymmetrical”

OK Go Performs Morrissey’s Politically Charged “Interesting Drug”

Just in time for the U.S. Presidential Inauguration, OK Go will perform Morrissey’s politically charged “Interesting Drug” on The Late Late Show With James Corden tonight, January 18.

Lead singer Damian Kulash said of the song: “I was listening to Morrissey around the time of the conventions last year and when he belted ‘There are some bad people on the rise’ – that fabulous opening line of Interesting Drug – I felt like he’d written it about the very moment we were living through. Now, with this bewildering, surreal inauguration looming, it seems like a good time to share those poignant lines again.” OK Go also released a video for their cover of the track today – watch it here.

The Slants New Video

Today The Slants went before SCOTUS (Supreme Court of the United States) in regards to In re Tam (Lee V. Tam), the band’s case fighting to trademark their name.

The band’s founder and bassist, Simon “Young” Tam has released a statement pertaining to the oral hearing today and his hopes for the outcome of the case:

“I’m confident that the Supreme Court will stand by the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit’s decision in finding viewpoint discrimination through trademark registration unconstitutional.

What many people forget is that this process all started with the government denying me rights based on my race: even in court, the government agreed that our racial identities provided the context for ‘The Slants’ to be a racial slur rather than any other possible definition for the word. In other words, the government alluded that anyone could register ‘The Slants’ if they had the right context – or in this instance, if they were of the right race. That’s simply wrong. It perpetuates institutional racism.
