LO-PAN’s fifth release, In Tensions, is a new five-song EP that sees the seasoned Columbus, Ohio unit continuing their blistering trajectory, building on the infectious, riff-filled grooves of their 2014 full-length, Colossus.
Their first release on Brooklyn’s Aqualamb Records (Husbandry, Black Black Black, Godmaker et al), In Tensions also marks the next stage in the band’s ever-evolving direction – anchored by the lead single “Go West,” an optimistic, sun-kissed, open highway anthem. Regarding the song, singer Jeff Martin elaborates, “It’s about setting out to accomplish a goal and then having that goal change along the way. And ultimately realizing the new goal was better than what you wanted in the first place.” A perfect rallying cry for action in uncertain times, Martin continues, “it’s also about getting out and doing something…. So keep moving forward. Keeping progressing. Keep evolving.”

The FADER traveled to 21 Savage’s home to share the real story behind his fearless songs. Senior writer Amos Barshad writes: “There isn’t space in 21 Savage’s music for the triumphalism that street rap has traditionally embraced — the classic tale of a plucky young man, weighed down by unimaginable burdens, coming out on top. Because Savage’s vision of life in Atlanta is not that of a grand triumph over impossible odds. His vision is that of a slow, aching tragedy.”

Okey Dokey premieres radiant, colorful “Congenial Man” video
You can’t fully appreciate the long history of recorded music without taking the time to look at the breakups. Whether it’s for good or for the season, Okey Dokey is the product of that natural reformation that occurs when musicians part ways. Fronted by visual artist Aaron Martin and The Weeks’ guitarist Johny Fisher, these two former band mates made the rare decision to revisit creating music together in Fisher’s small cabin about 20 miles outside of Nashville, TN. What occurred was a well blended mix of everything they loved about classic Motown combined with a dash of their psychedelic storytelling roots. With the record and touring band including a revolving group of musicians from bands such as Wild Child, The Weeks, Rayland Baxter Band, Morning Teleportation, Bully and Sol Cat, their upcoming debut album Love You, Mean It has a little bit of treasure for every type of listener.

In the new music video for ‘In the No Air’, the bouncing, playful new psych-pop single from Robbing Millions, Lucien Fraipont and Gaspard Ryelandt explore the city by night, capturing their anti-rockstar antics with grainy, home-recorded footage.
The track is an ode to Robert Wyatt’s number of the same name, and describes a bickering couple with a dog who have fallen on hard times. Their last hope is a holiday which they then appear unable to afford. Complete with the ultimate anti-hero phrase: “When I go out I picture myself in a movie – I am the hero who’s lost a lot of weight.”
New York-based R&B/Soul duo LION BABE, aka vocalist Jillian Hervey and producer Lucas Goodman, are pleased to share the music video for their song “Got Body.” The song is taken from their debut album, Begin, which was released earlier this year to critical acclaim. Lilah Larson is reluctantly stepping out of the self-imposed shadows. Having toured with the band Sons of an Illustrious Father since she was 17, she’s accustomed to deflecting direct limelight towards the larger group. With Pentimento, her debut solo album, that’s changing. Recorded at Montreal’s Hotel2Tango with Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Vic Chestnutt), the album features intimate meditations on conflicted love and relationships long since failed, written and performed—from vocals, to drums, to 19th-century pump organ

For President: Term 1 into a single video with a sustained narrative about Eric Bellinger’s campaign for political office. Singer-songwriter Jake Downs shares his soaring single ‘Wild’
Cambridge-based singer-songwriter Jake Downs prepares to release ‘Wild’, the powerful second single from his forthcoming album ‘Fracture’ via abstract pop label Vox Humana.
‘Wild’ is a story about abuse, emotional pain and vulnerability, expertly expressed in the music. The opening imperative “Take my body”, underscored by the unison piano, immediately alerts us to this subject matter; whilst displaying Jake’s impressive ability as a vocalist. Not formally trained, the rich tonality and maturity in his vocal alludes to years of singing experience, narrating his experience through the highly emotive lyrics, supplemented by the backing of his sister. As Jake pleads “Give me light” beneath tinkering high notes and a quickening in tempo, the song’s sense of desperation and urgency increases before stumbling into a truly uplifting chorus with the climatic “I was always so wild”. A full instrumental accompaniment and a beautiful soaring vocal signals a release. The cutting diction and varying vocal pressure exhibited by Jake throughout, further exemplifies the harrowing dichotomy between his entrapment and freedom.
