Lou Barlow (Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh, the Folk Implosion) will release his new EP, Apocalypse Fetish, on October 28th via Joyful Noise Recordings. A follow-up to last year’s Brace The Wave — his first solo release in six years — it features five new tracks recorded with Justin Pizzoferrato at Sonelab in Easthampton, Massachusetts.
A group of remarkable and heroic animals and people – including Sen. Bob Dole, Ruthie, a loyal emotional support dog, Blake, a cat who saves his owner from deadly seizures, and Kiah, the first “pit bull” police dog in the state of New York– will be honored by the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) at this year’s Humane Awards Luncheon in New York City. The ceremony recognizes animal heroes who have demonstrated extraordinary efforts as well as individuals who have shown great commitment to animal welfare during the past year.
“These awards recognize not just the heroism of particular animals, individuals, and organizations, but the incredible bond between people and their animals,” said ASPCA president and CEO Matt Bershadker. “That connection between people and pets is so strong that when you commit to helping one, you’re almost certainly helping the other. The accomplishments of these honorees demonstrate how much can be achieved when we recognize and support those ties.”
MANSIONAIR UNVEILS NEW SONG “EASIER”
Sydney trio Mansionair returns with hauntingly emotional song “Easier” (LISTEN HERE) produced by Eric J (Flume, Nick Murphy FKA Chet Faker). “Easier” is out today via Glassnote Records. The band will return to the US on November 14th playing at The Echo as part of Red Bull Sound Select 30 Days in LA.
Of the song, singer Jack Froggatt said, “Easier was written in the living room of Lachlan’s house. It was loosely inspired by a scene in Sofia Coppola’s Lost In Translation. Written for the moments you find yourself lying on your bed staring at the ceiling and wondering if things will change. It explores the endless piles of questions we can find ourselves asking those around us and the frustration of feeling like you’re going no where.”
Like many Americans who are beyond appalled at the candidacy of Donald Trump, Joseph Arthur felt the need to speak out in the best way possible for him, a protest song.
“The Campaign Song” is the result of Arthur’s frustration with the current state of affairs around this year’s Republican candidate.
“Woody Guthrie wrote a protest song about Donald Trump’s grandfather. So this is like carrying the torch for Woody,” Joseph remarked. “I used the lingo of a by gone era to accentuate that aspect like ‘America really should boot bums like this out’ and ‘Old scratch’. I wanted to use the lingo of Trump’s elders as subtle form of linguistic manipulation designed to send him under his bed shivering like the whimpering maggot that he is.”
The video, created by Ehud Lazin features footage from artist Spencer Tunick’s large-scale anti-Trump installation “Everything She Says Means Everything.”
