WALTER PREMIERE DAZZLING B-SIDE “LIKE THE FLY” AT GOLD FLAKE PAINT
Have you met WALTER? Maybe you snagged their Burger debut cassette last year, or maybe (like us) you saw them opening for the mighty FUZZ last fall. Well if you haven’t been introduced yet, we think you’re gonna love these LA psych-rock freaks.
Staying true to the interwoven nature of the Los Angeles music scene, WALTER is a group sewn together from different projects (Meatbodies, SadGirl, Ducktails) bent on staking its own claim on the music that their city is so well known for. Comprised of Patrick Nolan, Misha Lindes, and Ross Chait, the trio utilizes the stripped down format of guitar/bass/drums to blend Southern California heaviness with quieter, more subtle moments. Pretending like the guitar solo never went out of style in the first place, WALTER serves up its own unique flavor of unabashed, self-deprecating smart rock.
THIS SONG IS ABOUT LOYALTY and Loyalty is everythang and everythang is loyalty. Without Loyalty trust can’t be earned. So when you get a mate who is loyal, you need to show them your appreciation by goin to the wire with them and be willing to do anything for them and go to the end with them. that’s what this song is about.

RIP: RALPH STANLEY
Ralph Stanley, a patriarch of Appalachian music who with his brother Carter helped expand and popularize the genre that became known as bluegrass, died Thursday from difficulties with skin cancer. He was 89.
Stanley was born and raised in southwest Virginia, a land of coal mines and deep forests where he and his brother formed the Stanley Brothers and their Clinch Mountain Boys in 1946. Their father would sing them old traditional songs like “Man of Constant Sorrow,” while their mother, a banjo player, taught them the old-time clawhammer style, in which the player’s fingers strike downward at the strings in a rhythmic style.
Heavily influenced by Grand Ole Opry star Bill Monroe, the brothers fused Monroe’s rapid rhythms with the mountain folk songs from groups such as the Carter Family, who hailed from this same rocky corner of Virginia.

Judges is written about a moment in time where I had a job that was extremely rough day after day. It’s about the consequences of being “different” regardless of where you are. I realized not all consequences are direct, there is subtleties in this too. There is opportunities lost, being overlooked, and overruled, among other things that looking different cause. This doesn’t stop in school, there is genuine discrimination no matter where you go or where you live. This song was about learning to deal with the weight of judgment for who I am. – Jakoby Pierce – Lyrics/Vocals
BELLS AND ROBES NEW SINGLE
Jazz dreams blossom in Bells and Robes’s single “Dreamin,’” which spectacularly combines the band’s penchant for euphoric dreamscape sound with Miranda Realino’s smoky vocals. The beat pulses throughout the track, as ambient waves of the electronic keyboard spiral from the core. The result is a complex marriage between chill and jam — which, together, lead simply to enjoyment. It’s easy to get lost in “Dreamin,’” it prompts stopping and listening, as each of its carefully placed elements create enrapturement, until Realino’s final croon of “It’s so cold.” It’s one of those songs where, when it stops, a moment of puzzlement arises, of being thrust back into reality. “It’s so cold,” you agree. The only choice from there is to press repeat.
