JR DONATO “NOT FOR NONE”

The city of Chicago is vast, but J.R. Donato makes an excellent tour guide. In his new video single “Not for None,” the 22-year-old emcee takes the viewer from Grant Park to his humble abode in North Chicago, where he hosts a lean party for his homies. Produced by Ziggy Jetson, the song finds the Taylor Gang Ent. rapper dancing around Inception-horns and spiraling sine waves, finding colorful new ways to boast about his lifestyle: “My orange diamonds like pumpkin/ and my yellow diamonds like funyuns/ I’m rollin’ round with my patnas/ we thumbin’ through the new money.” Debuted by HipHopDX, “Not for None” is J.R. Donato’s first video of 2016 as he looks to continue his grind on an upward path with more new music in the works.

ZIEMBA VIDEO “WITH THE FIRE”

Ziemba is the performance moniker of René Kladzyk, a NYC-based artist and musician. Today she shares “With The Fire,” the 2nd single from her forthcoming debut LP via FLOOD.

“With the Fire” features a forthcoming music video that was shot in the ruins of Kladzyk’s childhood home in Forestville, Michigan. This house has sat abandoned for 20 years, but is still filled with all the things that were there when Kladzyk was a small child, now in an extreme state of dilapidation. Its become a sort of nostalgia museum, inhabited by small animals, bees, and mold that have slowly transformed the furniture, toys, and artifacts of Kladzyk’s youth. There’s a magic in seeing the passage of time so viscerally; Kladzyk’s sandbox now has a 30 foot tree growing out of it, the flaking paint hangs from doorways in lace-like chandeliers, the barn has been completely swallowed by ivy. The house reveals the death of Kladzyk’s childhood through these explosions of life and growth. Kladzyk’s house provides a bittersweet encapsulation of the song and the album themes, demonstrating the passage of time through objects and traces. In this vein, her debut album will be accompanied by the release of a limited batch incense, created with cedar, lilacs, and other plants harvested from the verdant yard of Kladzyk’s childhood home. Created in partnership with biodynamic herbalist & perfumier Pretty Hole Collective, this incense will be something to burn while listening, a material reminder of the creative capacity of destruction.

ODDITY “GHOST”

“Wind me up, push me around, just don’t tell me to settle down.” That’s the sound of singer Oscar Baker’s voice as it pulsates through the title track of Chicago-based alt-rock trio ODDITY’s debut album, Settle Down. Guided by the prolific producer Steve Albini, who steers the band’s sound in line with his own masterful résumé, he pieces together the band’s understanding of their own history, while giving them space to envisage on their own where that history might lead them. “Why fly like a monster, when you’re moving like a dancer,” Baker sings as he inaugurates his listeners to these 11 tracks.

JAMES SUPERCAVE NEW SINGLE

Noisey has premiered James Supercave’s new video for “Burn” from the band’s debut album Better Strange out now on Fairfax Recordings. The video also includes the unreleased bonus track “No Pressure,” which the band has been performing at their live shows. The video was directed by Alexandre Souetre who told Noisey, “’Burn’ served as a collaborative experiment, where personal interpretations came together to form a music video: While the song’s meaning had no part in the initial inspiration, crew and talents were often blinded, both physically and conceptually, given very little explanation on context, content and purpose, and yet just enough to connect and work in parallel.”

STAR PARKS PREMIERE FULL STREAM OF NOSTALGIC, GORGEOUS DEBUT VIA GOLD FLAKE PAINT

Star Parks is the new Austin based project of Andy Bianculli, who started the band at the height of his last project The Preservation. Following a tour with Black Joe and the Honeybears and a stint at Austin City Limits, the Preservation decided to call it quits, and Bianculli started from scratch, creating a set of bittersweet tracks that would herald the beginning of Star Parks. For the new tracks, Bianculli enlisted two of his contemporaries, Tucson’s Andrew Collberg and Louisiana musician Chris Stafford, and recorded in Collberg’s lofi analog studio in Tucson, allowing the three to take risks and experiment with new sounds, instruments and influences.

MERLE HAGGARD’S FINAL STUDIO RECORDING “KERN RIVER BLUES”

MERLE HAGGARD spent the last few months of his life battling the pneumonia that finally felled him. During those months, he spent a significant amount of time in the hospital, which caused him to cancel a couple of tours. When it was suggested that he not go back on the road and rest at home, he did…while also walking across the road to his studio to record a few nuggets he’d been writing while in the hospital. His final song is titled “Kern River Blues,” which is about his memories of leaving Bakersfield in the late ‘70s.

THROTTLEROD “BAIT SHOP”

THROTTLEROD has always had a knack for surprising, and their fourth album, Turncoat, is no exception. After making the transition from four-piece to trio, the outfit offered up their third full-length, Pig Charmer, in 2009, and took a left turn from their earlier, riffier vibes to blistering and aggressive noise rock. Like all their prior work, it was produced by Andrew Schneider, and had a sharpness in its chug that, while it still grooved, was clearly looking to accomplish something apart from the band’s earlier three LPs: 2000’s Eastbound And Down, 2003’s Hell And High Water, and 2006’s Nail, as well their quiet, semi-unplugged 2004 EP, Starve The Dead.
