SKOPE NEWS FOR APRIL 1, 2016

HOLLOW BONES TO RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM

Empire State melodic metalcore quintet, Hollow Bones, will self-release its debut album, Lionheart, on May 27. Over a year in the making, Lionheart was mixed, mastered and engineered by Randy Pasquarella at Pasquarella Recordings and self-produced by Hollow Bones with Pasquarella’s assistance.

Hollow Bones comments: “We are incredibly proud to present our debut album ‘Lionheart.’ It took us over a year to get everything we wanted, and although it was a long wait, we couldn’t be happier with the final product. We hope that the passion we put into making this album rings true with people who are looking to find solace in music. We hope that people hear the words we are saying and are inspired to take action, or are relieved in knowing they are not alone and that others have felt the way they do and that there is reprieve. Our mission from the beginning has always been, and will always be, to find people who are as passionate about music as we are about creating it. Promote what you love, and use music to heal.”

Last year Hollow Bones launched a music video for the first Lionheart single, “DRYTOOTH.”

EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY UNVEIL SPECIAL VISUAL COLLABORATION PROJECT

On what is proving to be a whirlwind release day, Explosions in the Sky ardently unveil a surprise aural and visual art collaboration, Scenes from the Wilderness. Coinciding with the release of their first non-soundtrack album in five years, The Wilderness (Temporary Residence Ltd), Scenes from the Wilderness serves as both a visual companion to the record and a stand alone art project.

The band collaborated with multimedia designers CHIPS to add movement to nine still photographs taken by EITS guitarist Munaf Rayani. Rayani has served as band documentarian for the past 16 years, and the photos he chose for this project represent snapshots from their relentless worldwide touring over that time period.

CLAIR MORGAN PREMIERE INTRICATE “HOW TO SET YOUR BED ON FIRE” AT USA TODAY

Clair Morgan is a seven-piece rock outfit from Richmond, Virginia. With influences ranging from the likes of Cursive, Teenage Fanclub, Shipping News, Hum, Cap’n Jazz and several others, it comes as no surprise that this enormous collective bring their own unique spin to mathematically dynamic indie rock. No surface is left untouched as the group expands on the songwriting of frontman Clair Morgan with a variety of auxiliary instrumentation, smooth harmonies, complex interlaced guitars and syncopated rhythms. All of this combined leads to a unique live experience that can only best be described as a tiny orchestra playing catchy rock tunes.

BELLAMY BROTHERS SAFELY RETURN FROM SOLD-OUT EUROPEAN TOUR FOLLOWING BRUSSELS ATTACKS

The Bellamy Brothers returned to the U.S. after another sold-out European tour that included packed venues in Denmark, Switzerland, Sweden and Finland. While they did not travel to Brussels, the internationally-acclaimed duo were warned of heightened security and potential threats while overseas.

“The news of the Brussels Airport bombing was released less than an hour before we were due to depart our hotel to the Zurich Airport for our flight to Stockholm via Amsterdam. There was heightened security in the form of armed guards at the check-in counters at the Zurich Airport. By the time we landed in Amsterdam, the news had reached our family and friends in the USA. We all started receiving emails, text and Facebook messages and phone calls from people concerned about our safety. Many of those concerned wanted to know if we would cancel the remainder of the tour and return to the USA. While this was a horrific tragedy, unfortunately it is unrealistic to think a similar attack can’t happen in the USA or anywhere else in the world. If we live our lives in fear, the terrorists have succeeded. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Brussels and the families of those who lost loved ones,” David Bellamy said.

SPACE RAFT “MOUNTAIN”

On “Rubicon” (out April 15 on Dusty Medical Records), hints of the best of ’60’s and ’70’s rock are combined with the dynamism and immediacy of modern post-punk. The Milwaukee band (that features members of Call Me Lightning and Mystery Girls) reminds me of Big Star or Matthew Sweet with a slightly stoner-y/psych vibe.

Speaking on the release of the new single, they’ve said: “‘Magic’ is our attempt at a ballad. It’s sincere and careful, but hopefully not saccharine. It’s for people who don’t want to hide behind any pretences of invulnerability, and to just be honest about being in love. That’s why the ending is how it is, to act as a kind of release for the person in love.”

‘Magic’ is lifted from the band’s debut EP ‘Tell Me Lies’ which is set for release on April 15th, with the band celebrating the release the night before at The Old Blue Last in London on April 14th.

EDITORS NEW SINGLE

Editors return with a new single and an extensive run of festival appearances for the summer alongside shows with Manic Street Preachers in the UK. Having released their fifth studio album, ‘In Dream’ last year, a record that singer Tom Smith remarked upon as an exercise in making music that was ‘both pop and experimental’, the band ended the year with a run of high profile and high selling dates across Europe and the UK including three sold out nights at Amsterdam’s Heineken Music Hall and a sell-out London return at Hammersmith’s Apollo. ‘Forgiveness’ amply demonstrates that desire to ignore genres by mixing a loose dancefloor beat with spiraling melodies and a highly politicized lyric.

VINCENT COLBERT NEW SINGLE

A comforting track about making peace, Vincent Colbert releases his second single “Landslide” off of the upcoming album, Unwind, due out May 6. Like a traveler looking for a place to finally call home, the track takes pieces with it from across the country, as each location shapes the song with new experiences along the way.

MIKAEL LIND SHARES FULL STREAM OF AMBIENT EP VIA CLASH

Today, the full stream of the Intentions & Variations EP has premiered via Clash Music, who say, “Mikael Lind’s weightless works seem to evolve in a universe of their own devising. Dealing in pure sound, Intentions And Variations is a piece of sound design, working in parallel to the catalogues of Deaf Center or Stephen Mathieu.”

COUGH NEW SINGLE

After a five-year break, Richmond’s COUGH has returned with their newest opus, Still They Pray. Produced by Electric Wizard’s Jus Oborn and recorded by Oborn and Windhand’s Garrett Morris, Still They Pray is the kind of monolithic, cosmic doom that will take the listener to the heights of despair and the bottom of the abyss. With this release, COUGH summons psychedelic, feedback-driven melodies just to deconstruct them to their core. Still They Pray is easily COUGH at their most focused: pessimistic riffs and tortured grooves collide in melodic agony alongside a hallucinogenic blend of harsh and clean incantations, crushing and cathartic yet utterly mesmerizing. Step through the gates of madness and stare into the void.
