JUSTIN MARTIN NEW ALBUM

Justin Martin looks to the skies on Hello Clouds, his second full length album on Dirtybird. Building on the formidable foundation he established with 2012’s Ghettos & Gardens, Justin invites listeners on a high-flying journey through a rich musical landscape. One of the label’s most beloved characters, Martin lets his effervescent personality shine through on these 13 tracks – along with an unexpected range of emotions.

From the first strings of album opener “Dive In”, Justin effortlessly establishes an otherworldly mood. Are we deep beneath the ocean’s surface, or squinting at bright sunlight while 30,000 feet in the air? It ultimately doesn’t matter – we just need to hear more. And Justin delivers with a set of obsessively crafted tunes for clubs and headphones alike. For example, on title track “Hello Clouds,” Justin mixes the ethereal vocals of rising star FEMME with sub-rattling lows and a chorus of singing 303s.

“FIRE MAKES” BY THE LOOM

Here In the Deadlights was recorded and produced by Kevin McMahon (Titus Andronicus, Real Estate) at Marcata Recording in upstate New York, and its themes revolve around the difficult time that unfolded for band leader John Fanning after a life-upending split from his longtime partner and best friend of 14 years, which was followed by the heavy lifting of rebuilding after the collapse… hence the lapse between albums.

When asked about collaborative efforts of The Jelly Jam guitarist Ty Tabor describes John as, “The forefather of the band,” and enthuses that “Playing with Rod has been a lifelong dream. ANIMAL PLANET REVEALS STUNNING TRANSFORMATIONS FROM ABUSED TO ADOPTABLE IN SPECIAL SECOND CHANCE DOGS

As its 150th anniversary approaches in April, the ASPCA® (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) partners with Animal Planet to take viewers behind the scenes of its Behavioral Rehabilitation Center. SECOND CHANCE DOGS – premiering Saturday, April 16, at 9 AM ET/PT during PETopia, Animal Planet’s pet-programming block – follows six dogs on their journeys from frightened canines to forever companions.

Rescued from hoarding cases, puppy mills and other atrocities, these animals have lived their lives in constant fear and neglect, resulting in extreme distrust of humans and at times complete catatonia. These conditions make them unsuitable for adoption, which puts their lives at grave risk. ASPCA behavior experts at the New Jersey-based center accepts these dogs from across the country into their rehabilitation program to give them a second chance at a life they deserve. Each rescued animal that comes into the facility has suffered different emotional and physical abuse ranging from living in cages barely big enough to move around to fearing the touch of anyone. During the course of their stay, the experts work with these dogs to improve their quality of life and give them hope of a new, happy life.

PISS VORTEX EP STREAM

Danish grindcore nihilists, PISS VORTEX, are gearing up for the worldwide release of their scathing Future Cancer 12″ EP through Indisciplinarian next week, and advancing the attack, Stereogum has posted the entire record for exclusive streaming. “Piss Vortex’s nearest sonic touchstones are scabrous future-grind acts like Brutal Truth and dissonant death metallers such as Gorguts, but the feeling you get from listening to Future Cancer, their 12-minute upcoming EP, has more in common with hardcore-derived bands such as Converge, Yautja, and fellow Scandinavians Beaten To Death,” issues the web portal. “Considering that it’s a second-ever release featuring an average track runtime of two minutes, Future Cancer is a riot of greasy, insidious hooks. Every tune here features at least one flip-your-desk moment…”

C.W. STONEKING’S “GET ON THE FLOOR” PREMIERES AT STEREOGUM

Hailing from Australia’s remote Northern Territory, Stoneking grew up listening to gospel, ragtime and Chicago blues, citing American musicians including Son House, Robert Johnson, Skip James and Bukka White as among his earliest influences. “When I first heard it I thought it was kinda funny music,” Stoneking explains, “because it was so deconstructed and not really adhering to any rules that I’d been told music [should] fit into.” The Guardian notes that “you get the impression that he is so completely immersed in the era of the earliest folk recordings that his shambling, clattering sound is a default setting, not an artistic choice. Hearing Stoneking perform live is, somehow, like listening to an old ‘78 recovered from a dusty attic in New Orleans.”

SUMAC NEW SINGLE

SUMAC (Aaron Turner on guitar and vocals, Nick Yacyshyn on drums, and Brian Cook on bass) released an intensely heavy new track earlier this week, generating excitement from Pitchfork, Stereogum, Metal Injection, and more. “Rigid Man” highlights the band’s finely-tuned intensity as they rhythmically build towards a crushing wall of feedback.

Turner says of the track: “Much of it has to do with questioning fabricated structures of identity and what it means when those structures are destabilized by contact with the outside. That has been a unnerving process to undergo, but also fruitful in terms of discovering the path to individuation and realized connection with the self.”

PRINCESS CENTURY NEW VIDEO

“Rendezvous is an EP comprised of tracks that are a departure from what I normally do,” says Postepski. “The tracks didn’t quite work on the album (Progress) but I felt they shared a weird Krauty EDM vibe. The artwork was done by Faye and Gina in Paris. I love the concept they tied in with the single, Rendezvous: a meeting with someone that is arranged for a particular time and place and that is often secret.”
