TERRI BINION “LONG WAY BACK”

On March 25th, the Orlando, Flordia-based singer songwriter Terri Binion will release The Day After The Night Before, her first album in over fourteen years. This collection of 11 songs summarizes her journey, or attempt rather, at finding some sense of normalcy after enduring a year that saw the tragic loss of her wife, along with both parents, and an aftermath that included a long and unsuccessful bid for justice due to a legal system still struggling to recognize same sex marriage.

Southern Living premiered “Long Way Back,” the album’s opening track, and said Binion “writes her folksy Americana ballads with deep-seeded honesty… you’ll want to put this song on repeat.”

JOY CROOKES “NEW MANHATTAN”

At only 17 years old, South London-based artist Joy Crookes is something of an anomaly for a girl of her age. Born and raised in Elephant and Castle, Joy has had a passion for music since she was young – but whilst many other girls of her age would still be working out where their life might be heading, Joy’s path has been set in stone for a while.

It’s instantly evident that Joy is a natural wordsmith, penning personal lyrics that are both frank, and engaging – not just for her years but by any standard. Her diverse array of musical influences manifest in a signature sound that is complex, haunting and sophisticated.

HEARTS HEARTS FULL ALBUM STREAMING CULTURE COLLIDE

Perhaps fitting for a band conceived in a monastery in Upper Vienna, Hearts Hearts create beautiful, elegiac songs which live at the intersection of classical and contemporary electronic and pop music. Anchored by Österle’s voice and as likely to evoke Sigur Ros as Flying Lotus, their debut album Young is an album about experimentation and observation – literate, sophisticated, but vulnerable and warm.

JASON COLLETT RELEASES PREMIERES VIDEO FOR “LOVE YOU BABE”

Produced by Bahamas’ Afie Jurvanen, Song And Dance Man’s thirteen songs bear the wit and melody of classic Jason Collett: contemplative reflections on getting older, backed with an affinity for freewheeling disco music. The album’s conspiring themes of love & loneliness, sun & shadows, are buoyed by its soaring sound. Each song rises into an easy, spacious groove, lead by Jason’s languid melodies and Afie’s sun-drunk bass.

It’s by far the best single release of his career: It’s more melodic and more focused; fiercer and more playful; funnier and sadder. It’s also probably the best pure rap release of the first quarter, and the best-case scenario for how a locally famous rapper can make a great album for a wider audience without getting lost in a corporate ledger.”

NYC duo, The Prettiots (Kay Kasparhauser and Lulu Landolfini) arrive today with their highly anticipated debut, “Funs Cool” via Rough Trade Records. Funs Cool comes hot on the heels of their recent rapturously received first UK shows in November, and recent single, “Stabler,” at once an ode to Elliot Stabler, the detective with a heart of gold from NBC’s Law & Order series, and a wistful examination of idealism in romantic relationships.

LOU DOILLON ON NOISEY

Co-produced with Taylor Kirk, aka Timber Timbre, Lay Low realizes Doillon’s vision of a more electric sound than she sought on Places. To achieve it, the two secluded themselves last winter in Montreal’s Hotel2Tango and set to bringing the album’s eleven tracks to life—culled from a collection of more than 30 songs written by Doillon. “I’ve always had a particular fondness for Canadian artists, from Leonard Cohen to Neil Young and Rufus Wainwright to Timber Timbre,” Doillon says. “I also have a great affinity with the wide open spaces of Canada.” Additional sessions took place in Paris and London with members of her stage band, and the finished album was mixed by Nick Launay (Nick Cave, Arcade Fire).

ESKOBAR “TO THE RESCUE”

Eskobar achieved the status of the second biggest ever Swedish indie pop band after Kent, MTVs Best Nordic Act, massive world tour with Sting, and they’ve literally been through it all: from a tiny lil village in Sweden to massive deals, tours, LA, Japan, money, crazy lifestyle, issues and addictions coming with that territory, a lot of fakeness (is that a word?) surrounding one, labels and agents expecting so much even Beyoncé would struggle with it (I’m only guessing, B and I haven’t been acquainted… yet), then getting dropped big time, no friends around (except me of course and my goodness I saw it all), and dealing with all this one way or the other…

JAMES SUPERCAVE ALBUM STREAM

KCRW is streaming James Supercave’s highly anticipated debut album Better Strange a week ahead of its February 12 release date. KCRW’s Eric J. Lawrence says, “It is a perfect album title for the band, as they prove themselves masters of the odd angles and off-kilter pop melodies that are littered throughout their record, turning unlikely musical directions into indie gold. Slightly queasy synths and frontman Joaquin Pastor’s distinctive vocals anchor songs like “Burn” and “The Right Thing,” giving their dynamic, rhythmic structures an otherworldly, Radiohead-esque sheen.”
