AUTOEROTIQUE NEW SINGLE PREVIEW

On the heels of this exciting nomination, Autoerotique is thrilled to announce the first single from his forthcoming Kids Don’t Care EP, “AUH”. Dropping Feb 12th, 2016, the bass-house heater contains a flurry of military percussion and rising synths, with titular vocals from Leah Culver.

Doubling as A&R for DIM MAK, Autoerotique remains a crucial part of the label’s history. Since then, he’s remained a permanent fixture on the Top 100 charts – his landmark track “Feedback” with Steve Aoki, Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike peaking at #3 on Beatport’s Overall Top Ten tracks.

TINY KNIVES LP STREAM

This week, the outsider underground aficionados at Eolian Empire will issue the first proper vinyl release from Portland’s dismantling punk trio, TINY KNIVES, with the outfit’s teeth-smashing Black Haze LP. Noisey has let this unhinged riffathon out early with a full stream of the platter, the adjoining review boldly issuing of the band’s damaging ways, “TINY KNIVES sounds like nothing else that’s going on in music right now, which is a pretty massive feat for any band, let alone one with such a slim discography.”

BURNT PALMS SHARE STREAM OF FIERY GRUNGE-POP FULL LENGTH

Sometimes you hear about the syndrome of the “difficult third album”, but in this case the newest work unveiled by Seaside (CA) based Burnt Palms is their most inventive work to date. If the previous record The Girl You Knew thrived on the contrast between the compact sound of the garage guitars and the lightness of singer Riley’s voice (the preferred reference among reviewers has been the Dum Dum Girls), this time the writing shifted–pouring in indie-pop melodies and a predilaction for faster rhythms. The work in its entirety aquires a character of spontaneous vitality and immediacy that closely resembles historical formations of the nineties.

SEVEN SISTERS OF SLEEP LP STREAM

Ezekiel’s Hags is indisputably SEVEN SISTERS OF SLEEP’s most ambitious and meticulously-crafted material to date. Delivering a venomous mixture of violent, doom-ridden madness with a severe beckoning to the occult, the quintet has forged a monolithic album that transcends solitary genre classification without rewriting the rules. Recorded with engineer Paul Miner (Motörhead, Terror, Phobia), Ezekiel’s Hags bears fifty minutes of new material through eleven relentless songs that beat the listener into oblivion. Chock full of tortured vocals, gigantic riffs, and thunderous drums, this is music as vile as it can be.

“FUTURE SOUP” SINGLE

Following the success of their single “Metaphysical” on influential music label Counter Records last year, live electronic trio Autograf announce their EP Future Soup, set for release on March 11th. This week, the group has published the title track and first single from the five song showcase, “Future Soup.” A playful and vibrant hit that sets the tone for what’s the come, “Future Soup” effortlessly bounces between soulful vocals of Patrick Baker, bright percussion, and electrifying synths. The perfect follow on to the hype surrounding “Metaphysical.”

SOULWAX NEW SINGLE

After recent news that Belgian electro-rock heavyweights Soulwax will release the soundtrack for the Oscar-nominated director Felix Van Groeningen’s new film Belgica on February 26th (via Play It Again Sam), they have debuted a second, sultry cut from the album ‘The Best Thing’ by Charlotte on Konbini. The soundtrack as a whole is uniquely characterized by the fact that Soulwax created fictional bands to compose each track in line with the film’s narrative. The results are varied and brilliant. Previously they shared garage rock banger ‘How Long’ by the Shitz, which you can watch here. ‘The Best Thing’ takes a starkly different route, a glimmering, noir & B pop gem rife with moody electronics and evocative melodies. Charlotte seamlessly captures a temperament that’s both earnest and just a hint foreboding, showcased to perfection amidst Soulwax’s impeccable composing.

ERGO “THAT NEVER CAME” SINGLE

With his embrace of open space and strategic use of silence, trombonist, composer, and sonic architect Brett Sroka has honed an inviting improvisation-laced sound in his trio Ergo, an electro-acoustic group approach that often reveals astonishing, strangely beautiful and unexpected realms. What’s not surprising about Ergo is discovering Sroka’s affinity for Emily Dickinson, the poet whose radical concision and visionary deployment of silence is unmatched in the English language. Featuring drummer Shawn Baltazor and Sam Harris on piano, prepared piano and Fender Rhodes, Ergo’s third Cuneiform album As subtle as tomorrow is based on a brief and typically cryptic Dickinson verse. The project captures the latest evolution of Sroka’s singular vision.

At Walking.” A master of 11 instruments, Memotone comes from a family of artists and grew up on a diet of grunge, minimal classical compositions and electronic music. Joined by the strings of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, conducted by Thomas Wilkins, these concerts mark the first time the band has played at the iconic venue. With the exception of a club show to celebrate the release of the album, this is also the first time Jeff Lynne’s ELO has performed in Los Angeles in nearly 30 years.

On November 13, 2015, Jeff Lynne’s ELO released Alone In The Universe on Columbia Records, the first album of all-new music released by the band in over a decade. The album received critical and fan praise alike, prompting NPR to hail the first single, “When I Was a Boy,” as “vintage ELO, with Lynne’s signature chord progressions, string flourishes and a wistful but infectious melody.” Of the album, Rolling Stone raved, “Lynne definitely picked the right moment to reactivate ELO, waiting until he had a top-notch album ready to go — the excellent new Alone In The Universe, their finest since 1981’s Time.”

NICK PRATT “2DAMNHARD” VIDEO

Nicholas ‘Nick’ Pratt is no stranger to music, the stage, or commanding an audience. From “Funkytown” Fort Worth, Texas, Nick grew up with a part-time DJ for a father, and found his way on any stage or in any choir that would have him. Crate digging and performing at an early age groomed Nick into learning music, genres, and more importantly his calling. While in fourth grade, freestyling entered the picture and a rhythmically appealing Three Six Mafia was the motivation. As the years went by, Nick progressed into battle rapping and ultimately recording songs, but this was no surprise if you heard him singing or rapping in the hallways at school. Music ran through his veins.

HARRY MARSHALL NEW SINGLE

The last year has seen Harry solidify his sound to a fascination in 80’s styled synths and electric guitar, which has produced a nostalgic driving sound to his works as he often stays to the home of a rhythmic acoustic guitar.

“CITY SHOES”

Canal states, “Often times there’s a certain item, scent, or something else that lets us hold onto something palpable, that represents an era in our lives.” A song may remind someone of a friend or loved one who has passed away, or moved on. For Canal, a pair of shoes evoke memories of a lover who has come and gone. These shoes harbour both incredible and fatal moments of a relationship–they are an artifact that once embodied love, but now represent the absence of it.

The Lick, driven by it’s chunky bassline synth alongside sharp high-hats and somewhat melancholic breaks, aims to throw you back in over and over again with it’s absorbing groove – complimented by Volts, which still maintains that atmospheric breakdown before you’re hooked into it’s equally beefy yet hypnotic bassline, not to mention it’s pumping four to the floor beats.

Pepper’s-era Beatles.
