Michael Stokes began singing at the age of five, developing his talents from the sounds of gospel with greats like the Winans and Commission. a young Michael was the lead singer of his family gospel group “Spirit,” traveling from state to state performing in churches. Along the way he learned to play an assortment of instruments from drums to piano to bass guitar. It was throughout that six year journey as a member of Spirit, Stokes discovered his passion for performing. his first big break was at the age of 16 performing for Debbie Allen at the Kennedy Performing Arts Center in Washington, DC. In that year Stokes began singing the National Anthem and performing all over Detroit.
