SKOPE NEWS FOR NOVEMBER 2, 2015

BARREN WOMB NEW SINGLE

Norwegian noise rock duo Barren Womb are teaming with Revolver to premiere a track titled “White Raven”, off their upcoming second album, Nique Everything.

Timo Silvola (drums/vocals) tells Revolver, “The white raven looks quite different than other ravens. It is therefore shunned and looked down on by it’s own kind and falls easy prey to it’s enemies, making it the loser of the bird kingdom. It is truly the loneliest of all birds, never fitting in anywhere.”

FOE DESTROYER NEW VIDEO

Different, weird, and good. With its unconventional arrangement of ukelele, cello, foot stomps, and hand claps, Foe Destoyer’s single “Unconditional Love” strips down to the bare necessities. Initially recorded in one take with one mic (with strings and vocal harmonies added later,) the minimalistic garage rock band took a break from their usual sound to create a quirky, artsy tune that captures the concept of beautiful imperfection. Today, they’re releasing the video, which captures two lovers in various dream states, making the most of a carefree, flirt-like-no-one’s-watching kind of day at the beach.

War On Women have premiered their brand new (and very powerful) music video for “Say It” over at Punknews. HEAVENSBEE ALBUM STREAM

Dub Pop trio Heavensbee formed in New York City in 2015 around the talents of Roger Apollon Jr., Megg Howe and Marc Wasserman. The three have played in a variety of bands together and separately including Bigger Thomas, Across The Aisle and Rude Boy George. Seeking to create songs that explored the darker side of personal relationships, the three holed up for six months over the late winter and early spring of 2015 in a tiny rehearsal space in New York, where they worked to hone their sound. They approached each song like writing a scene from a movie or play, discussing the characters relationships and motivations.

DIZZY WRIGHT & LOU CHARLES SWAP VERSES ABOUT FRENEMIES ON “FACTS ONLY”

Who is Lou CharLe$? To the unitiated he may seem to be just another face in the struggle rap landscape but believe me, he is one of Dallas’ best-kept secrets. Both of his previous releases, “Who Is Lou?: Vol. 1” and “Sink or Swim” gained a great deal of local media accolades and several ‘best of’ nominations and now the kid is looking to take that success national with his upcoming release, “In Transit.” On the project’s first offering, “Facts Only”, Lou and Dizzy Wright wax poetic over a mellow, jazzy track provided by Billboard and Stellar Award-winning producer, J. Rhodes.

EMANCIPATOR RELEASES MUSIC VIDEO FOR “SEVEN SEAS (FT. MADELYN GRANT)”

In the wake of the release of his fourth studio album Seven Seas last month (stream here), hip hop/downtempo producer Doug Appling, aka Emancipator, has teamed up with director Erin Galey for a music video set to the title track. Featuring immaculate vocals from Madelyn Grant, who also lent her voice to Odesza’s breakout single “Sun Models” last year, “Seven Seas” is a cinematic, hauntingly beautiful soundscape that is complemented perfectly by Galey and her team’s visuals. Emancipator’s music has always taken influence from nature, so it was only natural to record this video far from the urban sprawls of modern society.

CARVED UP NEW SINGLE

“Riffer Phoenix” is the latest in the extensive array of riff puns integrated into the CARVED UP song-naming process to be issued to the public, the track a prime illustration of the band’s instrumental side, as virtually half of Matador was written and executed sans-vocals. Letting their riffs do the instigating with more chops than a horde of Bruce Lee’s hammering at your guts, “Riffer Phoenix” is one of the instrumental cuts on Matador that slides right past the bullshit with a weaponized version of that “less talk, more rock” mindset.

“OUTSIDERS” REMIX

While on tour in Europe with A$AP Rocky last month, Wiz Khalifa shared a pair of singles, with “Outsiders” quickly becoming a fan favorite having surpassed a million SoundCloud plays over the weekend. The Taylor Gang General has enlisted one of Taylor Gang Ent.’s youngest, 21-year-old Chicago rapper J.R. Donato, for the song’s remix. “It almost put me in the mindset of Kush & OJ,” J.R. Donato told 2DopeBoyz in their premiere of the remix, recalling when he first heard the track. “The hook inspired me the most cause he sounded like he had a lot on his mind when he came up with it, which then made me think about a lot, so it inspired me to get some things off my chest too.”

SECRETS OF THE MOON NEW ALBUM

German black metal band SECRETS OF THE MOON will release its new studio album, Sun, on December 4 via Prophecy Productions. Recorded at The Source Studios in Munich and Soundcave Studios in Hamburg, the recording is the sixth full length recording of the band’s career and the follow up to its 2012 release, Seven Bells, a record that was hailed as “black metal stripped of its pretensions and predatory instincts and left to fend for itself in a strange new world”. SECRETS OF THE MOON named the new album Sun because its inspiration stems from the immediate experience of becoming and perishing, of ending and starting anew and because the sun, itself, “is both source of warming light and all-devouring fireball.”

PHEDRE NEW VIDEO

Melted-pop duo Phèdre make music for escaping. The visually evocative soundscapes emerging on their previous releases take form like a great comic; a concise narrative, bright colors, and psychedelic textures. If comic books had strobe lights Phèdre’s certainly would.

DAVE MORRELL NEW BOOK IS A HIT

Author/record promotion man Dave Morrell has seen rock and roll future – and it’s rooted firmly in the past. 1974, to be precise. The year was a pivotal one in Manhattan’s music scene: big bucks were being spent to market rock and pop stars while disco and punk simmered in the underground. The era has ignited the imaginations of directors Martin Scorsese and Baz Luhrmann, who are readying 2016 dramatic series based on the scene for HBO and Netflix respectively. But trendsetters are already feasting on Morrell’s real-life tales about the high times of being Warner Bros. Records’ 21-year-old promotion man in the Big Apple in 1974.

Within 24 hours of its release, 1974 The Promotion Man New York City climbed to No. 4 on Amazon’s digital Music Business book chart while the print version jumped to No. 16 on the Music Business book chart. At 112 pages, 1974 The Promotion Man New York City is an ideal stocking stuffer or e-gift for any fan of music or 70s pop-culture. Find it now on Amazon.com in paperback and for Kindle,
