NECTARINE NO 9 NEW SINGLE

Postcard Records – self-proclaimed as “the sound of young Scotland,” fabled launchpad for Orange Juice and Aztec Camera – is a label known for singles rather than albums. But, long after this label’s early-’80s heyday, a reactivated Postcard released a trio of remarkable LPs. In 1994 came the Will I Ever Be Inside Of You LP from Paul Quinn And The Independent Group. In 1997 there was My Personal Culloden from the poet and former Clash roadie Jock Scot. But the remaining album most fully realized Postcard’s imperial-absurdist game plan in long-playing form: 1995 release Saint Jack by The Nectarine No. 9.

All our hopes and expectations were ABSOLUTELY blown out of the park. Matt was hands down the BEST man for the job and took our initial vision to new heights the minute he rocked up to the set.”

“ROCK BOTTOM”

Philadelphia’s Modern Baseball are a uniquely contemporary band. The quirky, tuneful songs convey how it feels to be young and hopeless in modern America-a cracked cellphone clutched in one’s hand, subconsciously refreshing social media, hoping to get noticed by that girl at the party and ignored by the ghosts from high school past. Calling on Say Anything’s bravado, the Front Bottoms’ tongue-in-cheek quirk and the Weakerthans’ literary misery, Modern Baseball have made a record with remarkable depth and relatability.

THE CROOKES RETURN WITH NEW SINGLE

“I Wanna Waste My Time On You” demands you forget everything you know about The Crookes.

As the writer Italo Calvino once said, “There’s a boundary line: on one side are those who make books, and on the other those who read them.” You could typify the Sheffield quartet as well read, or versed, in tales of love and the space in-between, but they are dreamers who resonate more with a life lived.

LONTALIUS SHARES NEW SINGLE & VIDEO “ALL I WANNA SAY” WITH i-D

Lontalius (Wellington, New Zealand’s Eddie Johnston) has shared his new single and video for “All I Wanna Say,” today with i-D Magazine. Lontalius has also announced his signing to Partisan Records in the US and Pod | Inertia in Australia and New Zealand. His debut full-length will be released in early 2016.

The imminently charming “All I Wanna Say” video shows Johnston learning how to ride a bike with a friend as dusk fades into evening. The video’s images echo the song’s themes of trust and intimacy: a supportive hand; a gentle helmet adjustment; two headlights circling in the dark, each one searching for the other. His lyrics repeat this sentiment: “All I wanna say is it’ll be alright / and maybe I shoulda lied / All I have to offer is my love / it’s not enough / but boy, I’ll give you everything I’ve got.” Overall the piece captures the feeling of cool summer nights as they slide in to fall.
