SKOPE NEWS FOR SEPTEMBER 21, 2015

AUTRE NE VEUT “PANIC ROOM”

Last month Autre Ne Veut (Arthur Ashin) announced his new album Age of Transparency, due out 30th October on Downtown, and shared its lead single “World War Pt.2.”

Age of Transparency marks the second step in a trilogy exploring the difficulty of making personal connections in an impersonal time. “The title comes from marketing jargon,” Ashin explains. “It’s a term for the place we’re in now, where truth and transparency are just ways to sell things and honesty is its own kind of performance.”

YINKA DIZ “HEAR ME, THO”

Born in Chicago to a mother from the infamous Cabrini Green projects and a Nigerian immigrant father, Yinka spent the early years of his childhood living in and around the city before moving to the Inland Empire, just outside of Los Angeles. A constant world traveler and student of culture, Yinka effectively canvasses his experiences in what he refers to as a ‘street-cosmopolitan’ sound.

MARTHA’S TROUBLE TO RELEASE TWO HOLIDAY SINGLES IN OCTOBER

Martha’s Trouble offers their most anticipated holiday work yet with the arrival of two digital singles, “River” and “White Christmas,” in October 2015. The new singles follow the success of two independent holiday albums, Christmas Lights (2002) and This Christmas (2008).

In 2002, Christmas Lights was selected for USA Today’s Top Holiday albums of the year list because of the distinctive voices of lead acoustic guitarist-singer Rob and percussionist-singer Jen. Now in 2015, Martha’s Trouble’s rendition of “River” (a cover of the Joni Mitchell song) is a gorgeous must-have for your holiday collection, along with the duo’s own take on the classic “White Christmas,” which was made famous by Bing Crosby.

Says Jen, “The spin we put on this song is so relaxing, it will put everyone in the Christmas spirit and will keep you feeling this way for years to come.”

‘SEED OF DORZON’ STREAM

Chad VanGaalen and Seth Smith release SEED OF DORZON on Friday, September 18 via FUNDOG. The experimental techno album premiered today on Noisey and is available to stream HERE.

The futuristic motifs, beat mutilation, and waves of dark atmosphere all play a part in the story being told on SEED OF DORZON. We hear babbling, hallucinatory machines exploding through sonic space, and digitized minds transcending into frequency. Unlike much in a genre that is supposed to be exploratory, this music truly does sound experimental (whatever tha may mean these days). Even the album’s creation process, which took place blind inside a Dropbox folder, speaks to new ways of doing things.

BLONDE SUMMER EP STREAM

Upon hearing Blonde Summer’s new EP, Paradise, refrain from typecasting them. It fits somewhere in between artists like Tame Impala, Modest Mouse, and more electronic artists like MGMT.

Blonde Summer’s latest EP, Paradise, joins the collection of sun soaked tunes that the band is known for, released on August 25th. Introducing more keyboards and beats, Paradise EP is like a fantastical version of the band’s previous self. The five songs weave the listener through Los Angeles pavement, beach sands, and the 420 smoke of songs like “Blazed”. Blonde Summer lets us know exactly what Paradise is to them. In an ode to their hometown, “CA Kid” celebrates a true affection for the Golden State.

GILL & LOVETT TO REUNITE

The always witty Vince Gill and the reliably wry Lyle Lovett are reuniting for a 13 city tour that will take place through February and March 2016. After teaming up for a series of concerts earlier this year, Gill and Lovett saw that the shows were so successful that they decided to continue the tour.

A reviewer for Elmore Magazine raved, “The evening reminded me of the Rat Pack, with pals Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra doing comedy and music and having a great time. . . . This was not the show I had looked forward to—it was much better.”

Each show will be a series of intimate solo and duo performances, during which the artists will serve as their own accompanists.

JEROME ISMA-AE AND ALASTOR’S COLLAB “OPIUM”

As its title suggests, Jerome Isma-Ae and Alastor’s new collaboration “Opium” is as addictive as a dance track can get. Its dark, alluring atmosphere suggests a deeper, more wicked side of progressive house and the steady, rising build leaves you craving for the dance floor. You’ll be itching to get your hands on this track when it’s released on September 21 via Jee Productions, a subset of Armada Music.

A-TRAK PREMIERES NEW SINGLE “WE ALL FALL DOWN”

With his new single “We All Fall Down,” out October 2nd and streaming now on Fool’s Gold, A-Trak follows the muse of “Push” even further into pure pop heaven. Featuring vocals from UK soulman Jamie Lidell, “We All Fall Down” transcends dance music’s genres and trends. It’s a welcome blend of throwback attitude (’80s electro soul, ’90s Chicago house, two-stepping Y2K chart toppers), thoroughly modern production, and earworm melodies that feel timeless from the very first listen.

DIÄT STREAMS POSITIVE ENERGY LP

Brought together by a shared enthusiasm for bleak UK punk and a history of playing in hardcore bands, Berlin based Diät have created a sound that they have described, perhaps not entirely seriously, as ‘tough new wave’. Fans of Crisis, Killing Joke and The Mob should be pleased by the band’s unlikely synthesis of depressive drift and cranked, accelerated energy.

Their debut LP, Positive Energy, will be released this week on Iron Lung Records in the US and Adagio830 in Europe.

JUNGLE ROT PREMIERE UNRELEASED TRACK WITH DECIBEL MAGAZINE

The natives are restless…for more JUNGLE ROT! And the Wisconsin death metal institution hasn’t disappointed for over two decades. The quartet makes its Decibel Magazine Flexi Series debut in the November issue (Iron Maiden cover) with “Speed Freak,” their take on the 1988 Hallows Eve classic. “We figured if anyone was gonna cover Hallows Eve, it would be a song from their first two albums,” says bassist James Genenz. “But we chose to go with something from their third album, Monument, as it’s usually overlooked.”

“COPS COME” VIDEO

Northern Faces are an alternative rock band signed to Equal Vision Records with roots in New York’s Capital District. 2015 has already been very much a breakthrough year for the band as they’ve not only released their debut record, but also spent time on the road supporting The Dear Hunter and on their own headlining summer tour. In addition to those runs the band has also shared the stage with the likes of Royal Blood, The 1975, Cage The Elephant, Kongos, Say Anything, RX Bandits, Electric Guest, Civil Twilight, Heartless Bastards and made waves at both SXSW and CMJ. Needless to say, their brand of guitar-heavy, anthemic rock and dynamic live show has captured the audience at every step along the way.

HØØNCH, the new indie-electronic group from Los Angeles-based musicians/producers Jonathan Kim and Gabriel Rodrigues, has arrived. SUN CLUB REVEAL NEW TRACK “SUMMER FEET”

Courtesy of SPIN you can now listen + share the catchy and bright new track “Summer Feet” and the band’s fresh, fall-filled session rendition of “Tropicoller Lease” HERE.

Their first-ever full length LP, titled The Dongo Durango, finds the band joyously deconstructing the traditional pop song-then rebuilding it with off-kilter time signatures, gleefully unhinged vocals, and sunny hooks that sink deep into your already fevered brain.

NO ICE NEW VIDEO

On the inspiration behind the video, Frey shares: “I am way into film, and always want to imagine the most cinematic qualities when I’m writing or recording a song. We decided to make an homage to one of the best films ever, Breathless by Jean Luc Godard, which Saskia Kahn (Director) is also a huge fan of. The scenes between Jean Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg, under Godard’s cool black and white gaze conjure a portrait of falling love which is equally joyous and heart wrenching, not unlike what we were going for with the tune itself. I’m not an actor, and it was a truly bizarre experience to write myself into one of the more iconic scenes in the history of film with our very own Seberg. In fact, it made me nervous.”

HISTORIAN “PULLED UNDER”

Historian is the ethereal brainchild of LA-native Chris Karman. Karman describes Historian’s sound as “headphone music” and that’s precisely what it is: music for anyone who likes to get lost when they put a record on, who wants to be immersed. After his first record, Shelf Life, Karman converted his then studio project into a full-fledged band. With the help he fleshed out and altered the direction that Historian was headed. His sophomore release, Current, was crafted with production assistance from Be Hussey (Radar Brothers, Guides). Current also features strings from Quartetto Fantastico, whose members have recently worked with Father John Misty and Flying Lotus, among others.
