BROOKLYN ELECTRONIC COMPOSER MICHAEL HIX SHARES CINEMATIC “II” VIA EXCLAIM!

Michael Hix is an NYC-based composer and musician originally from Tennessee. His music incorporates synthesizers, guitar and voice to build complex dynamic structures that evolve over time, delving the human condition and the metaphysical dimension. His work draws upon classical minimalism, sacred music and late-Romantic styles. Aeon is Hix’s first full length album, a cinematic work separated into six movements which will be released 6/16 via Brooklyn’s Paper Garden Records. Today, “II” has premiered over at Exclaim!, who say of the track, “‘II’ marks the second movement on the record — and it’s an airy, dramatic number that begins with soft, twinkling synths and ethereal vocals, but ebbs and flows between a sweeping orchestral number and a soft synth-driven lullaby.”

MAIN ATTRAKIONZ COMMEND FREAK NASTY

Oakland duo Main Attrakionz recently announced their return from a several year hiatus with an official release date for their long-awaited 808s & Dark Grapes III album, which will be released on June 30th via Neil Young’s Vapor Records. On their latest single, “Dip,” the cloud rap pioneers MondreMAN and Squadda B channel their inner Freak Nasty with eccentric, weeded out rhymes. With several layers of percussion rattling throughout the song, producer duo Friendzone utilize glittery, video game-esque keys, making for a delicate but disjointed beat. “Dip” premiered via HotNewHipHop, who said “It’s yet another feel-good anthem in their repertoire, and should provide some much-needed chill in the next few months.”

SPACE MIRRORS NEW VIDEO

Disagreement.net (9/10): “One year after their last album In Darkness They Whisper, which was the first in the band’s Cosmic Horror series inspired by H.P. Lovecraft, Space Mirrors continue in that same vein, relying more on concise songwriting than on instrumental meanderings as was sometimes the case in the past. …Space Mirrors are mostly a space rock band, of course, but elements of progressive rock, gothic and doom metal are also an integral part of the mix.”

KAMCHATKA RELEASES DIGITAL SINGLE “HUMAN DYNAMO”

“Thomas [Andersson, guitar/vocals] wanted me to sing a couple of songs on the album, and this is one of them,” commented bassist/vocalist, Per Wiberg. “‘Human Dynamo’ is based around an idea I had for quite a while but never really finished. When we started jamming on the riffs, it became clear that I had to rewrite the lyrics and vocal melodies, which turned out to be a good thing as it came out stronger than the original version, I believe. It’s an up-tempo rocker with a positive message about moving on and not looking back. I’m definitely looking forward to playing this one live as it’s well suited for air guitar while loudly screaming the chorus. I even managed to sneak in a Bad Brains reference lyrically.”

SAUL WILLIAMS RELEASES NEW VIDEO FOR “BURUNDI”

“My goal with MartyrLoserKing was to skim global issues, throw them into my drum machine and see what polyrhythms formed. Never did I imagine that the release of Burundi, the first song recorded for the album, would coincide with democratic unrest in Burundi as their president attempts to re-write their constitution to run for a 3rd term. My hope is that this song & songs like it give the protesters the fuel they need to overcome over-militarized police & power hungry politicians. I want the politicians, police, and all who stand in the face of democracy with over-zealous self-interest to know that their candle is burning at both ends and that the collective WE will never be silenced and the more they try the more our voices will be heard. The technology of awareness is solar powered and cannot be turned off.” – Saul Williams

“LITTLE ANTHONY: MY JOURNEY – MY DESTINY”

Jerome Anthony Gourdine, better known as “Little Anthony” recently collaborated with author Arlene Krieger to release a memoir book entitled, “Little Anthony: My Journey – My Destiny”. The book is more – much more than a bio. It is a story of how a kid from Ft. Greene, Brooklyn went on to become not only an inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (along with Metallica, Jeff Beck and Run DMC) but one of the vocal architects to emerge in the era called the “Golden Age of Rock and Roll”.

Anthony said, “Some of my greatest acclaims came later in life and I’m glad they did. When we were younger, The Imperials and I squandered so much. We made all the wrong moves, had the wrong managers, listened to almost no one (at first), were ripped off unknowingly and got caught up in our own celebrity. When we were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009, we had come full circle and are eternally thankful to be honored by our peers. I said we stand on the shoulders of giants and I meant every word.” Little Anthony & The Imperials were further honored when they appeared on the 25th Anniversary of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concert at Madison Square Garden.

DEBBIE NEIGHER ANNOUNCES NEW SINGLE “IT NEVER SNOWS HERE”

“It Never Snows Here” was recorded Christmas Day in Oakland with engineer Ian Pellicci (The Dodos/Rogue Wave/Deerhoof/Matt Pond/Thao and the Get Down Stay Down). Of the inspiration for the new track, Neigher said, “Being born and raised on the East Coast, I found it completely deregulating when I moved to San Francisco, a city without any seasons. I realized that you get used to the external cycles of the year and your internal emotional cycles reflecting each other, and it felt very strange to live in a place where time seems to just run into itself.”
