“CLOUD RIDER” REMIX

It’s always a rare treat when one superstar artist remixes another star’s original work -it offers a fascinating glimpse into the diverging avenues of artistic expression and taste. Indeed, Solomun’s remix of Paul Kalkbrenner’s single Cloud Rider does just that.

The original ‘Cloud Rider’ – the first single off of Kalkbrenner’s forthcoming seventh studio album 7- is an upbeat, soulful affair that brilliantly incorporates D-Train’s soulful vocal sample into a melodic bit of techno. Solomun’s interpretation does nothing of the sort – instead opting to shroud the famous sample in an ethereal and brooding concoction of tech house mastery.

INTERNATIONAL FILM MUSIC FESTIVAL OF CÓRDOBA ANNOUNCES LINE-UP FOR THE 11TH EDITION

The International Film Music Festival of the Province of Córdoba is proud to announce the lineup for their 11th edition, to be held from July 19 to 26 in Córdoba, Spain.

Legendary composer Howard Shore will be special guest of the festival, which will feature two nights of Shore’s music, one featuring music from THE LORD OF THE RINGS Trilogy and one which will be more of a career retrospective, featuring music from Shore’s long-standing collaborations with directors Martin Scorsese and David Cronenberg.

“Over 10 years ago, one of the best film music composers in history, allowed us to greet him at the door of his dressing room after a Lord of the Rings concert in Seville. Maestro Howard Shore created then the germ of our Festival,” said festival founder David Doncel. “The fact that Maestro Howard Shore leads our guest roster this year, only makes it clear that the Festival has achieved its goal. That of being not only one of the most important festivals in the film music scene and create a special atmosphere in which fans, composers and organizers are involved as a single family. We are proud to have in attendance an outstanding composer whose legacy is timeless and that is already part of the global collective mythology.”

The band wanted to put out a document of songs with no names or production credits attached because “Music is oft-times clouded in politics, over-branding and marketing manifestos that present stories other than the ones the songs tell. INSTITUTE STREAMS CATHARSIS LP IN FULL

Austin punks Institute are streaming their forthcoming Catharsis LP in its entirety right now. You can listen to the album here.

Politically speaking, not much has changed about the way Institute exists as a band since signing to Sacred Bones. Having members in Glue, Wiccans, and Back to Back, all fellow stalwarts of the Texas punk scene, helps streamline the approach for them, as all of their bands operate from the same basic ethos. In fact, singer Moses Brown has said they’re only comfortable being on Sacred Bones because he considers the label “a punk label on steroids.” (A note from the label—“Drugs, yes. Steroids, usually no.”)

We had a lot of fun with this song, but we’ve also grown a lot this past couple of years and have a lot more to talk about in our music. There is some great instrumentation behind us on this new one that we think fans will also be excited about.” MKTO also performed the hot new track on the 2015 Billboard Awards Red Carpet Pre-show last month. The song is the opening salvo from their forthcoming sophomore album due out on Columbia Records and scheduled to be released later this year.
